The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koch punishes DeBruyn's body with a nice straight punch.
DeBruyn gets the takedown into side control.

A lull in the action here.
Koch told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
DeBruyn looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Koch is avoiding damage well.
Koch tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Koch ducks down and throws a hook to the body but DeBruyn moves away.

Koch bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps DeBruyn's head backwards.

Koch misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Koch lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
DeBruyn throws a sloppy head kick
and Koch counters with a three punch combo that has DeBruyn backing up. DeBruyn nods at Koch to acknowledge the strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Koch misses with a few strikes there.
Koch jabs DeBruyn to the body, keeping him at a distance.
DeBruyn closes the distance and clinches.
Koch is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

DeBruyn is looking to take this one to the mat.
DeBruyn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Koch cracks DeBruyn with a right hand to the side of the head.
Koch moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Koch leaves DeBruyn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Koch fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
DeBruyn takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
DeBruyn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

and Koch counters with a nice body shot.

Erik Koch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

DeBruyn throws a poor cross that misses
and Koch counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Koch gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from DeBruyn.

Koch rushes DeBruyn and presses him up against the cage.
DeBruyn tries to pull guard but Koch holds him up against the cage and eventually DeBruyn drops back down to his feet.

DeBruyn's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

DeBruyn stalling the fight.
Koch prevents a takedown attempt there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Erik Koch dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!
DeBruyn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Koch as he avoids it easily.
DeBruyn doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Koch counters with a stiff right hand.
DeBruyn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Koch's guard.
Koch trying to keep a closed guard but DeBruyn is proving a slippery customer.
Koch tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Koch looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but DeBruyn puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Koch is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and DeBruyn has latched onto it... Big trouble! DeBruyn pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Koch is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from DeBruyn!
