Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Mangold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mangold has chosen Dead Prez as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Paul Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Danny Mangold!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Mangold closes the distance and pushes Phoenix back into the cage.
Mangold is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Phoenix gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mangold drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mangold is trying to drag Phoenix to the mat but Phoenix just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Paul Phoenix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Mangold.

Mangold has Phoenix pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mangold pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Phoenix tumbling to the mat - Mangold dives into Phoenix's guard.

Phoenix is looking for a triangle but Mangold pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mangold got a little sloppy there for a moment and Phoenix has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mangold has managed to get both his arms back between Phoenix's legs - danger averted.

Phoenix manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mangold manages to get himself to full guard.

Mangold had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Phoenix defends it easily.

Mangold has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Phoenix can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mangold has his foot on Phoenix's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Phoenix works his way back into a safe position though.

Phoenix looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mangold with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Phoenix decides to stand and escape the position.
Phoenix connects with a solid leg kick.
Phoenix throws a sloppy head kick and Mangold moves out of range easily.
Mangold is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Mangold darts in looking for a takedown but Phoenix gets double underhooks and turns Mangold into the cage.
Phoenix throws a shot from downtown. Mangold moves away and avoids it.
Nice sprawl there from Phoenix as Mangold shoots in.
Phoenix connects with a high kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Phoenix looks to land a right hand but Mangold moved out of range.
A solid leg kick lands there for Phoenix.
Phoenix throws a left and a right that both miss
and Phoenix takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mangold has picked Phoenix up - he's going for a ride! Mangold dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Phoenix is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Phoenix looks up at the clock and then as Mangold takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Phoenix smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Phoenix will probably get the nod.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Mangold drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Phoenix gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Mangold tries to score a body lock takedown but Phoenix shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Phoenix using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mangold has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Phoenix throws an elbow but it misses.

Phoenix tightens his grip and picks Mangold up, before dumping him to the ground. Mangold manages to land in guard.
Phoenix distracts Mangold with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.


Danny Mangold's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Danny Mangold's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Paul Phoenix!
Paul Phoenix thanked the fans post fight for their support.
In defeat, Danny Mangold stepped up to the mic, saying 'I have fallen this once, but I promise to pick myself up again. I will never ever disappoint the millions of my fans again. The road to success is long, but I am a fighter, and I will persevere. '.
