Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cody Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Cody Garza has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Santos!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garza is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Garza could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Garza throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Santos was covering up waiting for the punch and Garza finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Santos is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Santos wants to control from the top but Garza keeps moving.

Santos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Santos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Santos controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Santos tries to free his leg and advance position but Garza is retaining full guard.
Santos controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Garza is looking for a triangle here but Santos uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Garza taking a bit of punishment here - Santos scoring with strikes.
Garza throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Santos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Santos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Santos working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Santos is looking to take a break and control but Garza is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Garza takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Santos decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Garza doesn't manage to clinch there - Santos circles away.
Santos is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Garza with a body shot.
Santos misses with a jab, cross combination.
Santos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Garza thumps Santos with a low kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

and Garza counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Santos shoots in looking for a takedown but Garza manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Santos's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cody Garza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Santos.

Garza shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Santos has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Garza off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Alex Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Santos tries to bum rush Garza with a series of wild strikes but Garza uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Garza tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Santos dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Garza is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Santos's half guard.

Garza throws a sloppy strike and Santos has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Garza is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Santos!
