The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Varakin darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Varakin is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Varakin lands a couple of elbows.
Varakin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Walsh wants to stand up but Varakin is controlling him.
Varakin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Walsh is looking to stand up but Varakin isn't so interested in that idea.

Walsh manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Varakin gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Walsh scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Varakin manages to mount him!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Walsh is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Varakin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Walsh can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

It looks like Jasper Walsh has been cut.
Varakin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Oh Walsh is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Varakin cracks Walsh with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Varakin controlling the pace for now.
Varakin loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Walsh scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Varakin land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Varakin stands and salutes the crowd.
