EPL 10 - Week 5 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lorne Malvo and Abraham Donowitz. Donowitz is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: JEW FLOW. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Donowitz.
Donowitz throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Malvo swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Malvo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Donowitz has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Malvo throws an overhand right that lands on Donowitz's shoulder, as Donowitz tries to avoid the shot.
Malvo connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Donowitz momentarily.
Malvo fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Donowitz checks a leg kick.
Donowitz looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Malvo keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Malvo throws a low kick but it's checked well by Donowitz.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Malvo. Donowitz shrugs it off though.
Donowitz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Malvo paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The crowd cheers as Donowitz lands an impressive looking overhand right. Malvo doesn't seem phased though.
Malvo throws out a loose jab but Donowitz uses good head movement to avoid it.

Malvo is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Donowitz is keeping busy.

Donowitz throws an elbow that misses. Malvo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Donowitz's guard. Nice move by Malvo!


Malvo gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
We've been told by Malvo's head coaches at The Cooker that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Malvo walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Donowitz checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

and Donowitz counters with a single leg into guard. Malvo didn't expect that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Donowitz is looking for a triangle but Malvo pushes his legs off easily.
Donowitz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Donowitz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Malvo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Malvo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Donowitz is proving hard to escape from.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Donowitz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Malvo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Malvo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Donowitz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Malvo defends it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Malvo wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Donowitz has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Malvo seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Donowitz can turn it around.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lorne Malvo.
I think Malvo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
