PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Art Bonner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Himura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Art Bonner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jason Himura!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Himura gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Himura gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Himura content to control rather than advance.

Himura is trying to work for a kimura but Bonner is defending well.
Himura is controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bonner wants to control but Himura is keeping busy.
Himura tries to stand and escape but Bonner is controlling the position.
Himura slows the pace down in half guard.
It looks like Himura might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Himura tries to work over Bonner's front leg with a kick but Bonner checks it.
An attempted straight right counter from Bonner misses the target.

Bonner has managed to clinch.

Himura successfully pulls guard.
Himura wants to improve his position but instead Bonner has moved into half guard.

Bonner is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Himura desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Himura is trying to control but can't.
Himura is holding on to half guard well.
Himura wants to control but Bonner is keeping busy.
Himura works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Himura is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Himura keeps trying to improve his position.
Himura is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bonner wants to clinch
and Himura counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Himura rushes Bonner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Bonner jumps guard but Himura turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Himura pulls guard effortlessly.
Himura pulls Bonner in to control the position.
Himura wants to stand and escape but Bonner is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Himura dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Himura tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bonner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Himura throws the kick towards the body but Bonner avoids it.

Himura closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bonner quickly recovers to half guard.

Bonner pushes Himura off and gets back to his feet.

Himura decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bonner is trying to maintain the position but Himura is very close to passing his half guard.

Himura frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Himura sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Himura lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Himura tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Himura is continuing to stall.

Himura breaks from Bonner's wrist control and lands an elbow.


Bonner is rocked!

Himura stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Himura circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Bonner to the canvas! Bonner doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Himura keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jason Himura!
