PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rock Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ash Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rock Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ash Williams!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Williams.
Williams avoids the body shot from Allen.
No luck for Williams with that takedown attempt.
Williams closes this distance looking for a takedown but Allen circles away.
Rock Allen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ash Williams.
Williams uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Allen.
Williams throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Allen's waist but Allen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Williams off to one side.
Allen throws a nice outside leg kick.
Allen looks to land a body kick but Williams moved away.
Allen throws a hook but Williams blocks it.
Williams changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Allen tries to avoid it but Williams manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Allen to the ground. Allen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Allen takes a swing at Williams's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Williams shoots for a double leg takedown but Allen sprawls well. He's pushed Williams's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Williams shoots in looking for a takedown. Allen tries to sprawl out of it but Williams keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Allen manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Allen throws a head kick that Williams semi-blocks.

Allen moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.


It looks like Ash Williams has been cut.
Williams fails with the takedown.
Allen wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Allen drives through with a takedown into Williams's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

We've been hearing good reports from Allen's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Allen decides to stand up, so the ref orders Williams to his feet.

Allen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Williams looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Williams is looking to regain half guard here but Allen keeps moving and retains side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Williams doesn't manage to clinch there - Allen circles away.
Williams looks for a takedown but Allen sprawls well.
It looked like Allen was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Williams.
Williams shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Allen as he jumps to the side.
Allen leaves Williams with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rock Allen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ash Williams.
Williams moves in looking to clinch but Allen pushes him off.
And Allen counters with a quick kick to the body but Williams blocks it.
Allen connects with an inside leg kick.
Williams shoots in for a takedown but Allen shows good takedown defense.
Allen drops down looking for a counter takedown but Williams sprawls and moves away.
Allen misses with a few strikes there.
Williams will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Allen throws a big counter combination but Williams scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Williams is defended easily by Allen.
Williams is breathing heavily.
Sloppy strikes from Allen. Those never looked like landing.

Williams gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Allen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Allen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Williams sees it coming and defends easily.
Williams is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Allen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Williams with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Allen wants to take a breather but Williams is having none of it.

Williams is pressing down on Allen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Allen stands and steps away. Williams gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Allen tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Allen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Williams avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Williams swings wildly with an uppercut but Allen uses good head movement to avoid it.
Allen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Williams lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Allen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Williams avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Allen goes for a takedown in the clinch but Williams prevents it.
Allen blocks an uppercut.
Williams gets through Allen's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Williams lands with a right to the head.
Williams lands an elbow that stopped Allen in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Rock Allen has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Williams throws a punch but it's blocked by Allen.
Williams prevents a takedown attempt there.
Williams misses with a punch to the body.
Williams looks to throw an elbow but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rock Allen dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Allen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Williams goes for a double leg but Allen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Allen continues to drive forward.
Allen dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

and Allen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Allen.

Allen tightens his grip and picks Williams up, before dumping him to the ground. Williams manages to land in guard.

Allen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Allen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Allen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Williams on the ground.

Allen drops back looking for a leg! Williams is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Williams manages to kick Allen off! Allen jumps back into Williams's guard.

Williams is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rock Allen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Williams looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Allen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Allen is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Williams will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Allen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
