The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mckee counters with a nice body shot.
Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mckee's waist but Mckee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side.
Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Mckee sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Mckee changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mckee throws a strike aimed at the side of Smith's head but Smith avoids it well.
Smith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mckee wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mckee has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
