PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Young Doogie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frankie Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Young Doogie!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doogie fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Edgar to the ground. Doogie is now in Edgar's guard.
Edgar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Doogie is controlling him.
Doogie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Edgar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Edgar looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Edgar doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Edgar is on top in guard.

Edgar wants to control from the top but Doogie keeps moving.

Edgar is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Doogie doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Edgar.
Edgar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Doogie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Doogie tries to get to full guard but Edgar has control of the leg.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Doogie can do anything to dispel that myth.
Doogie is still trying to improve position.
Doogie is doing well to control the position and prevent Edgar from advancing to side control.
Doogie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Edgar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Edgar blocks the strikes from Doogie.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Edgar enables Doogie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Edgar manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Doogie passes Edgar's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Doogie decides to stand up.

Edgar gets caught napping as Doogie dives in and scores a takedown. Edgar manages to retain guard.
Edgar is breathing heavily.
Edgar controls Doogie momentarily but Doogie frees himself.

Doogie throws a low kick but Edgar avoids it.
A counter left hand to the body from Edgar misses its target.
Edgar swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Doogie throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Edgar tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Doogie is in Edgar's guard.
Doogie postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Doogie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Young Doogie dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Doogie shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Edgar manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Doogie connects with a couple of short punches.
Doogie slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Doogie has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Edgar paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Doogie tries to clinch but Edgar moves out of range.
Frankie Edgar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Doogie feints and as Edgar raises his hands in defense, Doogie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Doogie gets to his feet. Edgar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Doogie landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Doogie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Doogie drops an elbow to the side of Edgar's head.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Young Doogie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Doogie is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Doogie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Doogie gets to his feet - Edgar follows without any prompting.
