PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kirk George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buckminster Fuller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kirk George!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Buckminster Fuller!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Konstantin Menshow and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fuller gets the takedown into side control.
Fuller is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
George tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fuller wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
George parries the strikes from Fuller easily there. Fuller is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable George to escape.
George is trying to control Fuller's posture but Fuller avoids it.

Fuller goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, George rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Fuller's guard! Nice work there by George!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fuller looking for a sweep. Not yet Fuller, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fuller has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Fuller has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Fuller being controlled here, momentarily.
Fuller looking to hit a scissor sweep but George is one step ahead there.

Fuller is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and George defends well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
George won't allow Fuller to sweep him here.
Fuller is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
George won't allow Fuller to get back to his feet.
George throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fuller works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

George knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fuller on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
George connects with a jab.

George closes the distance and clinches.

Fuller gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Fuller landing with the ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fuller with a flurry of punches that miss.
George controls Fuller momentarily but Fuller frees himself.

Fuller drops back, looking for a kneebar! George looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. George looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from George!

George postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Fuller tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but George wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Fuller's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fuller tries to bench press George off him but George keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kirk George will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


George misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Fuller closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. George quickly recovers to half guard.
George tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Fuller manages to move to mount!

Fuller is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, George has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Fuller tries to control but George wriggling away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fuller takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fuller with shots to the head and body - George looks very uncomfortable down there.
George could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Fuller moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, George has worked his arm free - good work by George!
Fuller scores with a couple of short elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fuller trying to control the action but George is working from the bottom.
Fuller wants to stand but George has his arm trapped.
Fuller tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Fuller just content to control the position.
Fuller landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Buckminster Fuller has got the better of the ground game so far.

A control attempt from George but he's now mounted!
George tries to lock up and control but Fuller gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Fuller jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… George is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by George and Fuller has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
George is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Fuller asserts his dominance and retains side control.
George is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fuller controls the position from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ground and pound from Fuller seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Fuller wants to control but George is keeping him busy.
Fuller content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buckminster Fuller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Fuller darts in and clinches George up against the cage.

George kicks off Fuller and gets to his feet.

and Fuller counters with a shoot takedown. George fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Fuller not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

George keeping moving, preventing Fuller from controlling successfully.
Fuller throws a strike but George rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Fuller can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as George controls the pace.
Fuller trying to keep a closed guard but George is proving a slippery customer.

Fuller escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. George gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
George not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Fuller manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. George manages to get himself to full guard.

George is trying to control the position but Fuller postures up.
Fuller slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Fuller is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down George's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
George tries to bench press Fuller off him but Fuller keeps the position.
Fuller wants to lay and pray for a moment but George keeps working.
George is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Fuller is staying tight to George's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Fuller cracks George with a big elbow.
Fuller works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fuller wants to control but George is keeping him busy.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
George is fighting to break Fuller's control of his arms but Fuller is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buckminster Fuller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Fuller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
