PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Jake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Havasu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Jake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Havasu!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Hemmingworth and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jake shoots for a double leg takedown but Havasu sprawls well. He's pushed Jake's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jake gets caught napping as Havasu dives in and scores a takedown. Jake manages to retain guard.
Havasu is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jake bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Havasu's guard.

Havasu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jake. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jake trying to control but Havasu is working from the bottom.
Havasu wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Havasu tries to strike from the bottom.
Havasu wants to get back to his feet but Jake passes into half guard.

Jake tries to stand and escape but Havasu is controlling the position.
Jake is thwarting Havasu's attempts to control the position.

Havasu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jake pulls his head out easily.
Havasu is not content to let Jake control the position.
Jake is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Havasu!
Poor strikes thrown by Jake there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Jake scoring with strikes but Havasu is staying in there.
Havasu is squirming around, avoiding Jake's attempts to control the action.
Havasu tries to reverse the position but Jake maintains control.
Jake can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Havasu is looking to escape.

Jake throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Havasu because Jake loaded up on that one.
Havasu tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Havasu can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jake tries to control but Havasu wriggling away.
Havasu taking shots to the head.
Havasu can't escape the position.
Havasu bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Jake wants to get back to his feet but Havasu is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Havasu trying to control but Jake is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Havasu pushing down on Jake's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The fighters are battling for position here. Jake manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Havasu working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jake bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Havasu's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Havasu as he jumps to the side.
Jake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Havasu paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jake fails with the takedown.
Jake throws a series of punches but Havasu avoids them all with ease.
Jake throws a sloppy head kick and Havasu moves out of range easily.
Jake dodges the punch combination from Havasu.
Jake appears to be looking for a big counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Havasu moves into the clinch.

Havasu pulls guard successfully.
Havasu is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Havasu is looking to stand up but Jake isn't so interested in that idea.

Jake trying to control but Havasu is working from the bottom.
Havasu wants to get back to his feet but Jake is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Havasu is looking to stand up but Jake isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Havasu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Havasu slaps away a takedown attempt from Jake, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jake. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jake shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Havasu sprawls well. Havasu wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jake gets slowly back to his feet.
Jake misses with an attempted mid kick.

Jake leaves Havasu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jake closes the distance and clinches up with Havasu, looking for a takedown. Jake pushes Havasu against the cage but Havasu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Havasu throws a counter combo.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Havasu blocks the body kick.

Havasu shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jake is trying to defend but Havasu finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Havasu working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Havasu not doing much here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Havasu tries to stand and escape but Jake is controlling the position.

Jake tries to roll over but Havasu keeps him under control.
Havasu slips a nice elbow through Jake's hands, connecting with Jake's forehead.
Havasu trying to pass the guard but Jake defending well.

Jake wants to control but Havasu is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Mike Havasu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Horrible takedown attempt by Jake or perhaps it was just good defense by Havasu, which made it look bad.
Havasu with the counter takedown but Jake avoids it easily.
Havasu stuffs the takedown.
Jake throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Havasu's waist but Havasu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jake off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Jake. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Havasu manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jake on his heels. He'll look to pass Jake's guard now, I'm sure.
Jake is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Havasu passes Jake's left leg - he's now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Havasu works his way into full mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Havasu avoids the attempt from Jake to control.

Jake gets back to half guard.
Havasu with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Jake wants to control the action here but instead Havasu manages to pass to full mount!
Havasu lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Jake tries to lock up and control but Havasu gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Havasu lands with some strikes.

Havasu content just to control the position here.

Havasu is working for a guillotine from mount but Jake frees his head quite easily.
Jake manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Havasu is trying to work for a kimura but Jake is defending well.
Jake keeping hold of Havasu's head, controlling as best he can.

Jake tries to kick Havasu off but Havasu keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Havasu has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Havasu lands a big elbow.
Havasu wants to stand but Jake is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
You get the feeling that Jake really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Havasu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Havasu takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Mike Havasu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Havasu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
