Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Widing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Widing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sergio Pettis!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Widing looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Pettis!
Pettis is looking to reverse the position.
Widing working the ground and pound but Pettis is defending the strikes.
Widing lands an elbow.
You can see the frustration on Pettis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Widing throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Pettis is trying to improve his position.

Widing tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettis takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Pettis is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Widing off and has taken his back!
Widing is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Widing rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Pettis is just content to waste time from the top position. Widing takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pettis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Widing swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Widing manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pettis manages to get himself to full guard.

Pettis has momentary wrist control but Widing slips an elbow through the middle.

Widing is working Pettis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Pettis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Widing is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Widing seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pettis for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pettis has momentary wrist control but Widing slips an elbow through the middle.
Widing postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pettis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Widing controls the pace.

Widing goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Pettis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Widing but great work by Pettis.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pettis stuffs the takedown attempt from Widing. Widing gets slowly back to his feet.
Widing fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Pettis is out of range.
Pettis checks the leg kick nicely there.

Widing looks to land a right hand but Pettis moved out of range.

and Widing decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pettis's guard.

Widing's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pettis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Widing sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pettis's guard.
Widing is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pettis can do to turn this around?
Widing slips a nice elbow through Pettis's hands, connecting with Pettis's forehead.
Daniel Widing overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pettis is rocked!

Pettis is defending against the submission attempts here by Widing.
Widing has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Widing winds up and cracks Pettis with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pettis is still in real trouble! Can Widing finish him?
We've been hearing that Widing has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Widing drops an elbow to the side of Pettis's head.
Pettis seems to have recovered his senses.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Widing connects with a nice short shot to Pettis's temple.

Widing seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Widing is taking a breather. Pettis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Widing is working for a submission of some sort.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Widing looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pettis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Widing seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Pettis has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Widing throws a solid leg kick but Pettis takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Widing.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Pettis just misses with a elbow thrown towards Widing's brow.

Pettis is looking to control Widing's arms but Widing gets an underhook and turns him. Now Pettis has his back to the cage.
Pettis misses with an elbow over the top.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Pettis takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
