PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brutus Brannagan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Mace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brutus Brannagan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Max Mace!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mace scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Brannagan misses with an attempted mid kick.

Brannagan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Brannagan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mace trying to control from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mace works his way to full guard. Good work.
Brannagan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Brannagan slips nicely into half guard.
Brannagan trying to control from half guard but Mace is working away.
Mace gets back to full guard.
Mace tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mace keeping full guard, as Brannagan tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mace wants to stand but Brannagan is controlling the position.
Brannagan wants to control from the top but Mace keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brannagan works over Mace with some ground and pound from guard.
Mace is adopting a defensive guard.
Mace is trying to keep Brannagan in close.
Mace looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brannagan is one step ahead there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brannagan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mace is keeping the position for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Mace had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brannagan defends it easily.

Mace wants to sweep here but Brannagan controlling him for the moment.
Brannagan tries to free his leg and advance position but Mace is retaining full guard.
Brannagan trying to control the position from guard on top but Mace is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brannagan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Brannagan drives through and clinches with Mace against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mace escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Danga de danga de dang - Mace scores with a four punch combination!

Mace gets a clinch.

Mace lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Mace wants to stand up but Brannagan is controlling the position.
Brannagan is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Mace jumps into side control!
Brannagan tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brannagan wants to control but Mace is having none of it.
Mace tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Mace dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Mace drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Mace wanted to stand there but Brannagan had control of the position.
Mace pushes down on Brannagan's leg and manages to get into half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mace wants to get back to his feet.

Brannagan is trying to maintain the position but Mace is very close to passing his half guard.
Brannagan is pressing down on Mace's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mace sitting in guard here, content to control.
Brannagan has control of Mace's left arm, preventing Mace from doing any damage.
Mace has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brannagan is proving hard to escape from.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Brannagan wants to clinch up but Mace keeps it at a distance.

Mace fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brannagan to the ground. Mace is now in Brannagan's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mace sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Max Mace has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mace slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mace controlling the position from side mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brannagan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mace wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Brannagan prevents Mace from improving position.
Mace passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Brannagan!

Mace's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Mace is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Brannagan is surviving well by controlling Mace's body position as best he can.

Brannagan wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Mace has the hooks in. Brannagan is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Brannagan trying to control the hands but Mace won't let him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brannagan tries to break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Mace showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Mace throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brannagan was covering up waiting for the punch and Mace finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mace postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Mace wants to control from the top but Brannagan keeps moving.
Mace stays in close to Brannagan's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brannagan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mace doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mace manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Brannagan wants to sweep but no luck.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Brannagan wants to hit a switch here but Mace passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Brannagan there!
Mace is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mace cracks Brannagan with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Mace has control of Brannagan's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Brannagan regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Mace avoids the attempt from Brannagan to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mace is landing with some decent strikes but Brannagan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Brannagan prevents any damage by holding on tight.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mace with shots to the head and body - Brannagan looks very uncomfortable down there.
Brannagan wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Mace tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mace putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Mace lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mace has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mace goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Brannagan turns into him and now he's in Mace's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mace trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Brutus Brannagan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Max Mace is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mace bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brannagan's guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
Max Mace comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mace has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
