The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dantes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Honda swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Honda scores with a jab.
Dantes throws and low kick but Honda moves out of range easily.
Honda looks to land a right hand but Dantes moved out of range.
Honda avoids the head kick by Dantes.
Honda throws a right and a left that both miss.
Honda avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Honda throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dantes.
Honda pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Honda stuffs the takedown.
Honda connects with the punch.

Dantes gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Honda tries to break the clinch but Dantes is controlling the position.
Honda jumps guard but Dantes stands there with Honda around his waist. Honda gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Honda wants to get back to striking at distance but Dantes won't allow it.

Honda is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Dantes gets control of Honda's arms and successfully pulls guard. Dantes will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Honda slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Piston Honda just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Dantes misses with a head kick.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dantes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Honda swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Dantes.
Honda connects with a right hand. Dantes shakes it off.

Honda gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dantes tries to free his leg and advance position but Honda is retaining full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dantes in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Honda on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Honda tries to get out of the position.
Dantes stands and throws Honda's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dantes is looking to take a break and control but Honda is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Honda connects with a good right hand that stumbles Dantes. Dantes circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Honda throws a jab but it's blocked by Dantes.
Honda throws a shot from downtown. Dantes moves away and avoids it.
Dantes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Honda's waist but Honda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dantes off to one side.
No luck for Dantes with that takedown attempt.
Honda looks to score with a jab to the body but Dantes is just out of range.
Honda throws an overhand right that lands on Dantes's shoulder, as Dantes tries to avoid the shot.

A slow jab from Honda misses its intended target.
Honda misses with a double jab.
Honda throws a big shot that misses.
Honda throws a nice looking combination but Dantes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Honda scores with a decent looking hook.
Dantes shoots for a takedown but Honda saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Piston Honda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edmond Dantes.
Dantes moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Dantes fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dantes tries to close the distance and clinch but Honda swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
