The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sprogis throws a sloppy head kick and Smiff moves out of range easily.
Sprogis scores with a spinning back kick!
Sprogis throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Smiff misses with a low kick.
Smiff shoots in for a double leg but Sprogis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sprogis throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Smiff showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sprogis.
Smiff shoots in but no luck this time.
As Smiff tries to get set, Sprogis tries to push him back and clinch up but Smiff manages to avoid the attempt.
A shot to the liver by Sprogis. Beautiful body shot.
Smiff looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sprogis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Smiff throws a combination that misses
and Sprogis counters with a body kick that stops Smiff in his tracks momentarily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smiff dives in and grabs Sprogis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sprogis pushes down on Smiff's head and hops out.
Janis Sprogis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diatomaceous Smiff.

Smiff throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Smiff changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Smiff stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Sprogis.
Sprogis closes the distance and clinches.

Smiff misses with a hook. Sprogis ducked under it nicely.
Sprogis tries to counter by clinching up but Smiff breaks away and moves out of range.
Sprogis lands a leg kick that knocks Smiff off balance momentarily.
Smiff shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Smiff thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smiff sitting in guard here, content to control.

Smiff stands up over Sprogis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Smiff slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Smiff has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Smiff slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sprogis is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smiff wants to finish this one by submission but Sprogis is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Smiff.
Oh Sprogis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Smiff cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Smiff postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Sprogis bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Smiff and the fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Diatomaceous Smiff!
Diatomaceous Smiff bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
