PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Harold Shipman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sni Probong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Probong has chosen Bodhi Mandala as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Sni Probong has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Harold Shipman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sni Probong!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Daniel Bishop and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shipman throws a hook to the side of Probong's head but Probong sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Shipman looks to land a combination but Probong avoids it well.
Probong connects with a good right hand that stumbles Shipman. Shipman circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
We've been hearing reports that Shipman has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Probong rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
enabling Shipman to counter with a crisp jab.
Probong tries to move into range but Shipman moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Probong throws a quick inside leg kick.
Probong dodges the punch combination from Shipman.
Shipman throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Probong sees it coming and avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Probong! But no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shipman takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Shipman lands with an overhand left.


It looks like Sni Probong has been cut.
Shipman misses with a body punch
and Probong counters with a one-two to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Probong defending well as Shipman loads up on a big left hand.

Probong throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Probong slips under a jab from Shipman.

Shipman dives in and scores a takedown into Probong's guard.

Shipman postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Probong is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shipman, into his guard.


Shipman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Shipman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Probong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Shipman is trying to control the position but Probong postures up.

Probong sitting in guard here, content to control.
Shipman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Shipman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Probong's corner is telling him to maintain position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Shipman holds on and takes a little breather.

Probong wants to control from the top but Shipman keeps moving.
Probong not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Shipman misses with a looping left.
Probong looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Probong takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Probong looks to score with a jab to the body but Shipman is just out of range.
Shipman takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Shipman throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Probong counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Probong lands with a good body shot.
Sni Probong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Shipman drives through with a takedown into Probong's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Probong trying to control the position.
Shipman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Probong is pulling down on Shipman's head. It's preventing any offense from Shipman, at least for the moment.

That was a close round but I would say that Harold Shipman will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Sni Probong's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shipman throws out a loose jab but Probong uses good head movement to avoid it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Probong enables Shipman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Probong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Shipman wants to control from the top but Probong keeps moving.

Shipman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Probong manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shipman has Probong in his guard.

Probong looking to sit in guard and control but Shipman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Shipman lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Probong tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Shipman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Shipman postures up in Probong's guard and throws a big left but Probong blocks it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Shipman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Probong throws out a counter right but Shipman avoids it with no problem.
A jab from Probong does it's job there.
Probong uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Shipman.
Probong connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Shipman lands a glancing blow to the side of Probong's head.
A clash of legs there as Shipman blocks the low kick.
Shipman steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Probong.
A jab from Shipman misses.
A little jabbing left from Probong on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Probong walks into a left hand.

Probong looks to land a left hand but Shipman moved out of range nicely.
Shipman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Shipman misses with a hook.
Shipman throws a lazy right hand but Probong sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sni Probong seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Probong swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Shipman connects with a crisp jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Probong rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Shipman counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and Probong counters by clinching up.
Probong scores with a shoulder strike.
Probong lands a left hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Probong swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Probong blocking some punches.
Shipman has a couple of punches blocked by Probong.

Shipman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shipman goes for a double leg but Probong avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Probong continues to drive forward.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Shipman throws a right hand that misses
and Probong makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Probong sizes up Shipman with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Probong pulls out of a head kick attempt.
An attempted straight right counter from Shipman misses the target.
Shipman feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Probongs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Probong closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Probong fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Shipman is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Probong can't fight it off and eventually Shipman manages to take the fight to the floor. Probong looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Probong working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shipman.
Shipman throws a strike but Probong rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Shipman controls Probong momentarily but Probong frees himself.
Shipman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Probong is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Probong controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Shipman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Probong defends well.
Sni Probong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Probong is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Shipman is trying to control the position but Probong postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Probong slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Probong avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Shipman is trying to keep Probong in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Shipman fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Shipman misses with a right hand
and Probong counters with a two punch combo.
Shipman moves forwards but Probong connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Probong rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shipman moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Probong lands a really nice looking cross but Shipman seems unphased.


Shipman is rocked!
Probong has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Probong lands a brutal uppercut that launches Shipman off his feet! Shipman tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:15 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sni Probong!
After winning the bout, Sni Probong thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
