The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Blankenship counters with a left and a right that stings Paez.

Paez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Blankenship to the ground. Paez is now in Blankenship's guard.

Paez drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Blankenship dives on top into guard.

Paez is looking for a triangle but Blankenship pushes his legs off easily.

Paez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blankenship gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
