PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Gevoenez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karasu Ryuzetsu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jason Gevoenez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Karasu Ryuzetsu!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Bart Greer and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ryuzetsu shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gevoenez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Gevoenez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ryuzetsu wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gevoenez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ryuzetsu asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gevoenez is looking to reverse the position.
Gevoenez is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ryuzetsu off and has taken his back!
Gevoenez doesn't have the hooks in and Ryuzetsu manages to turn into his guard.
Gevoenez is trying to keep Ryuzetsu in close.
Ryuzetsu is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ryuzetsu makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Ryuzetsu wants to control from the top but Gevoenez keeps moving.

Ryuzetsu lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Gevoenez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Gevoenez is looking for a triangle but Ryuzetsu pushes his legs off easily.
Ryuzetsu stays in close to Gevoenez's body and controls the position.
Ryuzetsu wanted to stand there but Gevoenez had control of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ryuzetsu with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Ryuzetsu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
It looks like Ryuzetsu might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Gevoenez has his foot on Ryuzetsu's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ryuzetsu works his way back into a safe position though.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Ryuzetsu is working Gevoenez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Gevoenez looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Ryuzetsu has picked Gevoenez up and slammed him! Gevoenez can't keep hold of the triangle and Ryuzetsu manages to pass to side control!
Gevoenez tries to improve position but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ryuzetsu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gevoenez keeps working.
Ryuzetsu grinds an elbow into Gevoenez's temple.
Gevoenez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ryuzetsu has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Ryuzetsu has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ryuzetsu landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Ryuzetsu lands an elbow.

Ryuzetsu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gevoenez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ryuzetsu wants to control but Gevoenez is keeping him busy.

Gevoenez struggling a bit here.

Ryuzetsu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ryuzetsu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Ryuzetsu wants to control but Gevoenez is keeping him busy.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gevoenez is trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karasu Ryuzetsu dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Ryuzetsu closes the distance and pushes Gevoenez back into the cage.
Ryuzetsu wants to get back to striking at distance but Gevoenez won't allow it.
A right handed body shot lands from Gevoenez.
Gevoenez keeps control of Ryuzetsu as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ryuzetsu is looking to control Gevoenez's arms but Gevoenez gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ryuzetsu has his back to the cage.
Gevoenez lands a right hand.
Gevoenez lands a hook that snaps the head of Ryuzetsu backwards.
Ryuzetsu tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Ryuzetsu has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gevoenez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ryuzetsu breaks from the clinch.

Gevoenez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Gevoenez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Gevoenez stands up out of the half guard.
Gevoenez shoots in looking for a takedown but Ryuzetsu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gevoenez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Despite the aggression on Ryuzetsu's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Gevoenez doesn't manage to clinch there - Ryuzetsu circles away.

Gevoenez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ryuzetsu's guard.
Ryuzetsu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gevoenez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ryuzetsu on the ground.

Gevoenez looking to sit in guard and control but Ryuzetsu gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gevoenez striking off his back but it's not causing Ryuzetsu any problems.
Ryuzetsu is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gevoenez is wriggling around but Ryuzetsu manages to pass to half guard.
Gevoenez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Ryuzetsu trying to control but Gevoenez is working from the bottom.

Ryuzetsu stops Gevoenez from standing up.

Gevoenez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ryuzetsu defends it easily.

Gevoenez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ryuzetsu defends well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ryuzetsu controls from within his opponent's guard.
Ryuzetsu has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gevoenez is proving hard to escape from.
Ryuzetsu is looking to work some ground and pound but Gevoenez has wrist control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gevoenez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gevoenez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ryuzetsu drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Gevoenez defends it well.

Ryuzetsu pushes Gevoenez up against the cage in a clinch.

Ryuzetsu breaks from the clinch.
Gevoenez misses with a series of wild punches.
Despite the aggression on Ryuzetsu's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

and Ryuzetsu moves into the clinch.
Ryuzetsu drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gevoenez pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jason Gevoenez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karasu Ryuzetsu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gevoenez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gevoenez moves out of range as Ryuzetsu throws a body kick.
It looked like Gevoenez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Ryuzetsu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gevoenez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jason Gevoenez will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Ryuzetsu closes the distance and clinches up with Gevoenez, looking for a takedown. Ryuzetsu pushes Gevoenez against the cage but Gevoenez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gevoenez dives in and grabs Ryuzetsu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ryuzetsu pushes down on Gevoenez's head and hops out.
Ryuzetsu wants to counter with a clinch but Gevoenez pushes him away.
Jason Gevoenez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ryuzetsu shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Gevoenez misses with a series of wild punches.
Ryuzetsu shoots in for a takedown but Gevoenez shows good takedown defense.
Gevoenez throws a right and a left that both miss.
Gevoenez throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ryuzetsu counters with a one-two to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gevoenez shoots in but no luck this time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gevoenez misses with a takedown
and Ryuzetsu counters with a right hand to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Gevoenez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gevoenez shoots in but Ryuzetsu avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Ryuzetsu looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Gevoenez!
Gevoenez tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Gevoenez is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Ryuzetsu working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Gevoenez is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Ryuzetsu has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Gevoenez taps out!
