PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Orton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rich Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randy Orton!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ben Watson and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Orton scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Orton is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Orton wants to take a breather but Perez is having none of it.
Orton wants to stand but Perez has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Orton keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Orton frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Orton goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Perez turns into him and now he's in Orton's guard.

Perez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Perez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Orton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Orton lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Orton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Orton wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving.

Perez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Orton moves into range and clinches up with Perez.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Perez goes for a takedown attempt but Orton pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Perez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Orton to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Perez wants to sweep here but Orton controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perez has a closed guard, preventing Orton from standing up.
Orton stays in close to Perez's body and controls the position.

Orton stands and steps away. Perez gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Orton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A nice inside leg kick there by Orton. That's going to slow Perez down.

Orton darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Orton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Orton decides to stand and escape the position.

Orton throws a sloppy head kick and Perez moves out of range easily.
Perez appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Orton misses with a head kick.
Perez seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Perez gets caught napping as Orton dives in and scores a takedown. Perez manages to retain guard.

Orton wants to get up but he can't break Perez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Perez has his foot on Orton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Orton works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Orton is working Perez over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Orton slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Orton stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Randy Orton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Orton looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Perez!

Orton has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Perez throws an off balance right hand
and Orton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Orton not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Orton has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Perez is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Orton wants to stand but Perez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Orton stands up from Perez's guard - Orton perhaps looking for a knockout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Orton.
Perez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Orton has control of an arm but Perez manages to advance to Orton's back!

Orton trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Orton is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Perez gets his way!
Perez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Orton is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Randy Orton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Orton has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
