PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Solis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Neal Yoda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yoda has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Solis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neal Yoda!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoda misses with a shot to the body

and Solis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Solis.
Yoda looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Solis stands and steps away. Yoda gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Solis scores with a kick to the midsection.
Solis lets loose with a powerful body kick. Yoda will feel that in the morning.

Solis clinches.

Solis decides to pull guard.

Solis manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Solis misses with a wild body shot.
Yoda with the counter takedown but Solis avoids it easily.
Solis comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Yoda steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Solis. That one must have hurt.

Solis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Yoda's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Solis gets to his feet. Yoda looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Solis lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Yoda tries to sprawl but Solis drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Solis decides to stand up.
Solis throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Solis lets loose with a powerful body kick. Yoda will feel that in the morning.
Yoda sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Yoda has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Solis.
A slapping body kick lands there for Solis.
Solis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Solis scores with a kick to the midsection.
Solis throws a push kick but Yoda slaps the foot to one side.
Neal Yoda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Solis throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Yoda.
Yoda takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Solis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Yoda is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Solis asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Solis stands up.
Solis lets loose with a powerful body kick. Yoda will feel that in the morning.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Solis.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Solis pushes Yoda away with a front kick.

Solis tries to keep at a distance but Yoda has taken the fight into the clinch.

Solis just leaning against Yoda, taking a breather.

Solis successfully pulls guard.

Solis is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Solis has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Yoda clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Solis working for the choke.
We've been informed that Yoda has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Solis has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Yoda has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Solis looking to break Yoda's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Yoda remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Solis will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Solis dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Yoda gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Solis has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Yoda uses from the top position.

Solis pushes Yoda off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Solis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yoda circles away.

Solis has taken the fight to the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Solis manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Yoda is breathing heavily.
Solis lands a decent punch to the body there.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Yoda has eaten all the pies!

Solis wriggles free and stands up.

Solis tries to land a front kick but Yoda steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Yoda moves out of range as Solis throws a body kick.
Solis throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Yoda stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Solis.
Solis tries a head kick but it misses.
Solis connects with an inside leg kick.
Solis looks to land a body kick but Yoda moved away.
Solis throws a half hearted mid kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Solis effectively controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Solis just leaning against Yoda, taking a breather.

Yoda pulls guard.

Solis stands up from Yoda's guard - Solis perhaps looking for a knockout.
Yoda moves out of range of the body kick from Solis.

Solis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Solis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Solis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Solis scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Solis looks to throw a body kick
and Yoda counters with a leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Solis dives in and grabs Yoda's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yoda pushes down on Solis's head and hops out.
Yoda doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Yoda moves out of range of the body kick.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Yoda crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Solis - the referee stops the clock and Yoda gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Solis. Yoda manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Yoda closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Solis did well to prevent Yoda getting side control.

Yoda decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Solis stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Yoda looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Yoda has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Solis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Yoda can do to turn this around?

Solis lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Yoda or not.
Solis throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Yoda blocks it with crossed arms.

Solis seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Yoda steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Solis.

Yoda wants to counter the offense by Solis and move into the clinch position.
Solis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Solis swings for the body but Yoda moves out of range.
Yoda tries to counter with a clinch but Solis shakes him off and moves away.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Solis - that will leave a mark!
Solis throws a push kick but Yoda slaps the foot to one side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Solis pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Yoda feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Solis is on top in guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Solis stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Solis has taken the fight to the clinch.

Solis pulls guard effortlessly.
Solis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Yoda's guard.


Solis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Solis throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Yoda blocks the body kick.

Solis misses with a low kick.

Yoda has closed the distance and engaged Solis in a clinch.
Solis is stalling here.

Yoda gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Solis has one foot on Yoda's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Yoda fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Solis, pushing him back against the cage.

Yoda manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Solis connects with a couple of short punches.
Yoda thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Solis stands and steps away. Yoda gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Solis lands with a nice body kick.
Yoda attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Solis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Yoda forces Solis back against the cage and clinches.
Solis stalling against the cage.

Yoda is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Solis can't fight it off and eventually Yoda manages to take the fight to the floor. Solis looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Solis is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Yoda has his hands clasped together but Solis extends and breaks Yoda's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Solis.
