Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Heiska Kivikari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niko Rupponen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rupponen is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: SMC Hoodrats. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niko Rupponen!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kivikari has a takedown stuffed.
Rupponen misses with a low kick.
Kivikari tries to clinch up but Rupponen circles away and keeps his distance.

Rupponen gets a takedown into half guard.

Rupponen decides to return to a standing position.

Rupponen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kivikari looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rupponen stands up and beckons Kivikari to his feet.
A bone on bone clash there as Kivikari blocks the leg kick.

Kivikari gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Rupponen stands and steps away. Kivikari gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Rupponen shoots in and bounces Kivikari off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rupponen stands up and waves to Kivikari to follow him.
Kivikari misses with a head kick.

Kivikari throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rupponen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Rupponen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Kivikari is working an open guard so Rupponen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kivikari tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rupponen swats him away and circles back towards the center.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kivikari is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Rupponen pulls his head out easily.

and Rupponen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kivikari!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Rupponen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Kivikari is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rupponen stands up and waves to Kivikari to follow him.

Rupponen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kivikari had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rupponen is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Kivikari Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rupponen's back instead.

Rupponen is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
