PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and The Bong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz comes to the cage accompanied by Boombastic (Mr Lover Lover) by Shaggy. Bong comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hits From The Bong by Cypress Hill kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The Bong has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Fernando Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, The Bong!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bong feints and as Diaz raises his hands in defense, Bong changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Bong from controlling successfully.

Diaz has his foot on Bong's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bong works his way back into a safe position though.

Bong tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bong has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bong felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Bong is having to fend off submission attempts from Diaz, who is looking to sink in the choke. Diaz doesn't have the hooks in though and Bong manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Bong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bong has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.

Bong jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Diaz is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Diaz and Bong has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Bong is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Bong eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bong looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Bong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bong is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Diaz still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Diaz has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
