PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Estrada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cameron Grimes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christopher Estrada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cameron Grimes!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grimes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Grimes looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Grimes is trying to control the action in half guard but Estrada is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Grimes tries to stand but can't do so whilst Estrada controls his leg.
Estrada could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Grimes content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grimes trying to control from half guard but Estrada is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Estrada is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Grimes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Estrada trying to control but Grimes postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Grimes throws a big shot that misses.
Estrada throws a counter high kick but Grimes was just alert enough to avoid it.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Grimes.
Grimes trying to control the position but Estrada is working away.

Grimes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Estrada, who protects the arm well.
Estrada might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Estrada struggling a bit here.
Grimes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Estrada keeps working.
Grimes is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Estrada will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Estrada tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Grimes easily slips into full mount!

Estrada wants to hold on but Grimes pushes him away.
Grimes sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Estrada wants to control but Grimes is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grimes looking to control but Estrada is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Grimes manages to capitalize on a mistake by Estrada to take his back!
Grimes looking to hold on to the position here but Estrada rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Grimes wants to control from the top but Estrada keeps moving.
Grimes is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Grimes is looking to work some ground and pound but Estrada has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cameron Grimes dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Estrada gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Grimes wants to control from the top but Estrada keeps moving.
Grimes keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Estrada's head.
Grimes trying to control but Estrada is working from the bottom.

Estrada is working an open guard so Grimes takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Estrada tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Grimes swivels and escapes.
Grimes throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A counter left hand to the body from Estrada misses its target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grimes moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Cameron Grimes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Grimes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Grimes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Grimes trying to control but Estrada is working from the bottom.
Grimes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Estrada trying to keep a closed guard but Grimes is proving a slippery customer.

Grimes stands and steps away. Estrada gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Estrada shoots in for a double leg but Grimes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Grimes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Estrada napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Grimes wants to control but Estrada is keeping him busy.
Estrada is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Estrada dodges the ground and pound from Grimes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Grimes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Estrada, who protects the arm well.
Grimes misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grimes is staying tight to Estrada's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Grimes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Grimes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Grimes trying to control the position but Estrada is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Grimes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Estrada to see if he's OK.
Grimes tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Grimes throwing shots but missing, from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cameron Grimes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!



Grimes clinches with his opponent.

Grimes jumps guard and drags Estrada to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Estrada is stalling in the full guard.

Estrada gets to his feet. Grimes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Estrada tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Estrada misses the shot to the body.

Grimes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Grimes controlling the action here.
Cameron Grimes has got the better of the ground game so far.

Estrada wants to control the action here but instead Grimes manages to pass to full mount!
Estrada is squirming around, avoiding Grimes's attempts to control the action.

Grimes is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Grimes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Estrada tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Estrada is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Grimes to keep the fight standing.

Grimes jumps guard and drags Estrada to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Grimes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Estrada is one step ahead there.
Grimes is trying to keep Estrada in close.
Grimes pulls Estrada in close to prevent any damage.
Grimes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Estrada trying to control but Grimes is working from the bottom.

Estrada stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Grimes looking to score a takedown here. Estrada is defending well but Grimes drives through and ends up in Estrada's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grimes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Estrada works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Grimes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Grimes's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Grimes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Grimes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Grimes wants to get up but he can't break Estrada's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cameron Grimes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Grimes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
