PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hunter Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Trout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Hunter Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ray Trout!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Trout manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Vasquez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Trout has taken the fight to the clinch.

Trout drags the fight down to the ground.
Vasquez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Vasquez stands up and waves to Trout to follow him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vasquez is defended easily by Trout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Vasquez or perhaps it was just good defense by Trout, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hunter Vasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Trout fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vasquez, pushing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vasquez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Trout regains guard immediately.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vasquez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vasquez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Trout tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Trout managing to control the position.
Vasquez throwing strikes from guard but Trout blocks nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vasquez drops back looking for a leg! Trout is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Trout manages to kick Vasquez off! Vasquez jumps back into Trout's guard.

Vasquez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Trout, up you get!
Vasquez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Trout.
Vasquez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Trout forces Vasquez back against the cage and clinches.

Trout breaks the clinch.

Trout shoots in and gets a takedown into Vasquez's guard.
Trout looks winded!
Trout controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Vasquez is controlling Trout's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vasquez is on top in guard.

Vasquez scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Trout preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Vasquez stands up from Trout's guard - Vasquez perhaps looking for a knockout.
Trout throws a series of punches but Vasquez avoids them all with ease.
Vasquez is looking to counter punch.

Vasquez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Trout to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Vasquez pushes Trout off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ray Trout seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vasquez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Trout steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Vasquez.
Vasquez slips a jab and a cross from Trout.

Vasquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trout as he avoids it easily.
Trout stuffs the takedown.

Trout pushes Vasquez up against the cage in a clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Trout breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vasquez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Trout.

Vasquez closes the distance and clinches.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Vasquez has Trout pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Trout manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Trout successfully pulls guard.
Vasquez distracts Trout with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Vasquez postures up in Trout's guard and throws a big left but Trout blocks it.
Vasquez chips away with some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Trout dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Hunter Vasquez's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Trout slaps away a takedown attempt from Vasquez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Vasquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trout as he avoids it easily.
Trout ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vasquez moves away.

Trout closes the distance and clinches.

Trout turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Trout manages to end up in side control.
Trout sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Vasquez is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Trout decides to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A punch combination from Trout misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Trout throws a right hand that Vasquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Vasquez also avoids with ease.

Vasquez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vasquez content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Vasquez decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Vasquez looks for a takedown but Trout sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hunter Vasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Trout moves into range and clinches up with Vasquez.
Trout tries a knee to the head but Vasquez blocks it.
Trout using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Vasquez has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vasquez lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Trout ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Trout no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Vasquez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Vasquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Vasquez postures up in Trout's guard and throws a big left but Trout blocks it.

Vasquez stands and steps away. Trout gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Vasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Trout sprawls well. Trout wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
Vasquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Trout but Trout pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ray Trout is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Trout lands with an overhand left.

Vasquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Trout pinned against the cage. Trout gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Trout unleashes a big counter combination but Vasquez bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Trout comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Trout misses with a two punch combination.

Vasquez wants to sweep but no luck.

Trout stays in close to Vasquez's body and controls the position.

Trout gets to his feet. Vasquez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Trout will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vasquez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Trout defends well and Vasquez ends up having to push Trout into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Vasquez goes for a double leg but Trout avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Trout continues to drive forward.
Ray Trout seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Trout bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Trout showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Hunter Vasquez's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Vasquez tries to keep at a distance but Trout has taken the fight into the clinch.
Trout has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Trout stops a takedown attempt from Vasquez.

Trout has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Vasquez clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Vasquez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Vasquez preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vasquez is pressing down on Trout's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Trout trying to control the position from guard on top but Vasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Trout wanted to stand there but Vasquez had control of the position.
Trout wants to control from the top but Vasquez keeps moving.
Vasquez has his hands on Trout's head, controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Vasquez is looking to stand up but Trout isn't so interested in that idea.
Trout trying to control but Vasquez is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Trout throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Vasquez counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Trout clinches.
Trout gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Vasquez.
Vasquez working some nice short punches in the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trout has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Trout tries to circle away but Vasquez has him pinned against the cage.
Vasquez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Trout to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hunter Vasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Trout has picked Vasquez up - he's going for a ride! Trout dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Vasquez pushes Trout off and gets back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Trout should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Trout is trying to stall.
Trout stops a takedown attempt from Vasquez.

Trout jumps into guard, dragging Vasquez to the mat.
Vasquez with a flurry of punches that miss.
Trout wants to stand and escape but Vasquez is having none of it.
Vasquez postures up in Trout's guard and throws a big left but Trout blocks it.

Vasquez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Trout is looking to stand up but Vasquez isn't so interested in that idea.
Hunter Vasquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ray Trout is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Vasquez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hunter Vasquez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Trout has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
