PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jewel Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Baldwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jewel Cote has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jewel Cote seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jewel Cote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Baldwin!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baldwin gets a double leg takedown into Cote's guard.
Baldwin looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Cote doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baldwin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cote controls Baldwin momentarily but Baldwin frees himself.
Cote has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cote throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baldwin trying to control the position from guard on top but Cote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cote gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Cote thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Baldwin stops Cote from standing up.
Cote tries to strike from the bottom.
Cote trying to keep a closed guard but Baldwin is proving a slippery customer.
Cote wants to sweep here but Baldwin controlling him for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Baldwin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Cote can't do much from the bottom here.

Cote sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Cote trying to control from the bottom.
Cote could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cote is concentrating on defense, preventing Baldwin from advancing position.
Cote has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Baldwin is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Baldwin's coach down at Island Impact was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Baldwin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Baldwin tries to keep at a distance but Cote has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cote is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Baldwin managing to block the knees to the body from Cote.

Cote seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cote wants to get back to his feet but Baldwin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Baldwin dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cote shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Baldwin but Baldwin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Baldwin closes the distance but Cote moves to the side
and Cote counters with a three punch combo that has Baldwin backing up. Baldwin nods at Cote to acknowledge the strikes.

Cote shoots in and bounces Baldwin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Baldwin wants to get back to his feet but Cote is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Baldwin is breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Cote is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Baldwin sees it coming and defends easily.

Cote in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Baldwin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cote!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jewel Cote!
