PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Tanlagu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roderick Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Tanlagu might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Where The Hood At. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 26 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Tanlagu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roderick Davis!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Davis wants it to stay on the feet.
Tanlagu looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Davis forces Tanlagu back against the cage and clinches.
Davis lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
A head punch on the inside from Tanlagu fails to land.
Davis slowing the pace effectively.

Davis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Roderick Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Davis gets a double leg takedown into Tanlagu's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Davis working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Tanlagu wants to improve his position but Davis is controlling well.

Tanlagu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Davis is working away from the top position though.
Tanlagu looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Davis decides to stand and escape the position.
Davis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tanlagu defends it nicely.
A quick step to the side and Tanlagu tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Davis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Davis showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Davis takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Davis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Davis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Tanlagu prevents Davis from improving position.
Tanlagu is trying to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Davis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Tanlagu is pushing Davis's head away, looking to escape. Davis manages to hold on to the position though.
Tanlagu can't do much from the bottom here.

Well, if Davis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Davis lands a nice short elbow.

Davis moves into full mount! Tanlagu won't be happy about that!
Davis pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tanlagu in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Davis looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Tanlagu is trying to reverse the position but instead Davis has taken his back - oops!
I really don't envy Tanlagu right now.

Tanlagu is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Davis gets his way!
Tanlagu is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
What can Tanlagu do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Davis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Davis has his arm under Tanlagu's chin here. Game over son! Davis squeezes tightly and Tanlagu is forced to tap out!
