PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brad Rood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenneth Boone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rood comes to the cage accompanied by Enter Sandman, by Metallica. Boone has chosen Hero by Nas featuring Keri Hilson as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brad Rood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenneth Boone!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, David Schapiro and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boone gets the takedown into side control.
Rood is not content to let Boone control the position.
Rood is trying to get back to half guard.
Rood dodges the ground and pound from Boone.
Rood knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boone on the ground.
Boone tries to get to his feet but Rood is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Boone in his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rood looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Boone puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Boone is looking to work some ground and pound but Rood has wrist control.
Boone tries to stand but Rood is controlling from the bottom.
Rood is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rood digs a good body shot into Boone's ribs.
Boone shoots in and drives through. Rood sprawls well.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rood.
You can see the frustration on Boone's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Rood takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rood postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Boone looks a forlorn figure.

Rood swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Boone is now in Rood's guard. A big mistake from Rood there, giving up the dominant position!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rood is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rood wants to take a breather but Boone is having none of it.
Rood slips a nice elbow through Boone's hands, connecting with Boone's forehead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boone wants to control but Rood is keeping busy.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rood's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

No joy there for Rood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rood throws a right hand that Boone ducks under and follows up with a left that Boone also avoids with ease.

Boone tries to bum rush Rood with a series of wild strikes but Rood uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rood misses with a hook.
Rood has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Rood ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Boone moves away.
Boone doesn't manage to clinch there - Rood circles away.
Boone tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Rood looks for a takedown but Boone sprawls well.

Rood scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Brad Rood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rood bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Rood tries to pass to full mount but Boone defends it.
Boone has a hand on Rood's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Rood takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
