The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Howell has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Van Gan has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Howell drags the fight down to the ground.

Van Gan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Howell keeping moving, preventing Van Gan from controlling successfully.
Howell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Howell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Van Gan on the ground.
Van Gan wants to get up but he can't break Howell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Howell closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Howell drives through and clinches with Van Gan against the cage.

Van Gan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Van Gan manages to end up in side control.

Van Gan has hold of Howell's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Howell seems comfortable defending it but Van Gan has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Howell is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Howell is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Van Gan couldn't care less - he's delighted!
