PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Grey Worm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Worm comes to the cage accompanied by Der Kaptain. Hunter is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Sunday Bloody Sunday- U2. Justin Hunter will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Grey Worm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Hunter!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Worm is defended easily by Hunter.
Justin Hunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hunter misses with a wild combination.

Hunter closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Worm can't do much from the bottom here.
Hunter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Worm keeps working.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Worm tries to bench press Hunter off him but Hunter keeps the position.
Hunter throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Worm is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hunter throws an elbow but Worm slips to the side and avoids it well.

Worm regains half guard, as Hunter was trying to land strikes.
Worm is looking to control Hunter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Worm avoid being mounted?
Worm tries to get to full guard but Hunter has control of the leg.
Worm is trying to stand up here but Hunter is controlling him well.
Worm is trying to get back to full guard.
Hunter throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hunter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Worm has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hunter is working away from the top position though.
Worm wants to get back to full guard.
Worm is trying to stand up here but Hunter is controlling him well.
Worm wants to control but Hunter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hunter trying to control from half guard but Worm is working away.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Worm shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hunter misses with a two punch combination.
Worm went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Hunter throws a series of punches but Worm avoids them all with ease.

Hunter manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Worm on his heels. He'll look to pass Worm's guard now, I'm sure.

Hunter keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Worm's head.

Hunter slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Worm can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hunter controls the pace.

Hunter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hunter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Worm has his foot on Hunter's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hunter works his way back into a safe position though.
Worm can't keep his opponent in guard - Hunter advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Worm might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hunter wants to control but Worm is keeping him busy.
Hunter is pressing down on Worm's thigh, looking to free his foot. Worm is holding on for now.
Hunter throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Worm looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Hunter wants to work for an arm triangle but Worm is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Worm wants to get back to his feet.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Hunter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Worm keeping hold of Hunter's head, controlling as best he can.
Worm wants to improve his position but Hunter is controlling well.
Hunter looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Worm with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hunter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Worm, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hunter cracks Worm with a big right hand but Worm just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Worm is trying to improve his position.
Worm is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hunter's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Hunter wants to pass to mount but Worm is defending the position.
Worm is trying to maintain the position but Hunter is very close to passing his half guard.
Hunter stalling away here and it's allowed Worm to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Worm keeps moving.
Worm pulls Hunter in close to his closed guard and prevents Hunter from doing any damage or advancing position.

Worm looking for a sweep. Not yet Worm, not yet.
Hunter throws a strike but Worm rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Hunter has his foot on Worm's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Worm works his way back into a safe position though.

Worm stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Justin Hunter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Worm's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Worm tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hunter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Worm somewhat.

Hunter shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hunter was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Worm is looking to regain half guard here but Hunter keeps moving and retains side control.

Worm is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hunter is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Hunter is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Worm has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Worm!
Hunter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hunter lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Worm is defending against the submission attempts here by Hunter.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grey Worm has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Justin Hunter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Hunter is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Worm keeping moving, preventing Hunter from controlling successfully.

Well Hunter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
