PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ernie Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santa Claus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Claus has chosen Kurtis Blow Christmas Rap as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ernie Suarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Santa Claus !
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Claus tries for a takedown but Suarez circles away easily

and Suarez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Suarez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Claus smiles and moves away.
Claus fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Suarez is looking to slow Claus down with leg kicks.
Suarez blocks a leg kick.
Claus looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Suarez is fending him off so far but Claus persists. Nope, Suarez circles away and we're back to standing.
Ernie Suarez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santa Claus .
Claus shoots in but Suarez avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Suarez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Suarez working over Claus with some ground and pound. Claus looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Suarez prevents Claus from improving his position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Suarez in particular looking to stall.

Suarez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Claus working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Suarez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Suarez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Suarez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Claus pulls Suarez in to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Claus shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Suarez as he avoids it easily.

Suarez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Suarez showed some decent athleticism there.

Suarez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Claus doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Suarez.
Suarez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Claus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Suarez winds up and cracks Claus with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Suarez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Claus is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Suarez not doing much here.

Claus on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Suarez throws a hook but Claus avoids it easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Claus is defended easily by Suarez.
Suarez went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Claus looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Claus is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Suarez decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Suarez drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Claus tries to buck Suarez off but Suarez is having none of it.
Claus is breathing heavily.
Claus is letting Suarez control him for a moment.
Suarez grinds an elbow into Claus 's temple.
Suarez cracks Claus with a big elbow.

Suarez decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Claus gets caught napping as Suarez dives in and scores a takedown. Claus manages to retain guard.
Claus is wriggling around but Suarez manages to pass to half guard.

Suarez stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Claus gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Suarez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Suarez can't find room to land a body shot as Claus controls the action.

Suarez has picked Claus up - he's going for a ride! Suarez dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Suarez works his foot free and advances to mount.

Claus is in all sorts of trouble here.
Claus is in a horrible position here. Suarez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Suarez with shots to the head and body - Claus looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Suarez breaks from Claus 's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Ernie Suarez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Suarez looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Claus really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Claus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Suarez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Suarez fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ernie Suarez dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Claus takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Suarez throws a right hand that Claus ducks under and follows up with a left that Claus also avoids with ease.

and Claus counters with a one-two to the body.
Ernie Suarez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Suarez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Claus tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Suarez is in Claus 's guard.
Suarez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Claus is trying to keep Suarez in close.
Suarez working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Claus takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Suarez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Suarez moves into the clinch.

Suarez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Suarez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Claus shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
It looked like Suarez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Suarez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Suarez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Suarez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Suarez gets to his feet - Claus follows without any prompting.
Suarez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Claus can do to turn this around?
Suarez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A nice combination there by Suarez.
Santa Claus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Suarez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Suarez misses with a jab, cross combination.

Suarez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Suarez throws a one two combo.

Suarez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Claus wants to stand back up but Suarez manages to pass into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Suarez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Claus trying to control but Suarez flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Suarez has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Claus .
What can Claus do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Suarez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ernie Suarez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Suarez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
