PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Tanlagu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roderick Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tanlagu comes to the cage accompanied by Where The Hood At. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tanlagu closes the distance and clinches.
Tanlagu looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Davis successfully pulls guard.
Davis has control of Tanlagu's left arm, preventing Tanlagu from doing any damage.
Let's hope that Davis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Davis pushes Tanlagu off and scrambles back to his feet.

Tanlagu misses with a leg kick

so Davis counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Davis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tanlagu is controlling Davis's posture.

Davis must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tanlagu swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Davis wants to counter the offense by Tanlagu and move into the clinch position.

and Tanlagu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Davis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Tanlagu did well to prevent Davis getting side control.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Davis working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Davis wants to free his trapped foot but Tanlagu is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Davis decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Tanlagu looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Davis - that will leave a mark!
Davis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Davis keeps Tanlagu at a distance using the push kick.
Davis wants to clinch.
Tanlagu thinks about countering with a head kick.
Tanlagu connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Tanlagu misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
David Tanlagu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Davis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tanlagu defends well and Davis ends up having to push Tanlagu into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Davis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tanlagu is fending him off so far but Davis persists. Nope, Tanlagu circles away and we're back to standing.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Tanlagu enables Davis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Tanlagu manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Tanlagu has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Davis has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tanlagu stuffs the takedown.
A counter left hand to the body from Tanlagu misses its target.

Tanlagu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Nice takedown defense from Davis. No joy for Tanlagu on that attempt.

Davis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Davis moves into full mount! Tanlagu won't be happy about that!

Davis lands a big shot there that rocks Tanlagu but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Davis is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Tanlagu can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Davis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tanlagu tries to avoid it but Davis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tanlagu to the ground. Tanlagu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tanlagu was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Davis fails with a takedown attempt.
Tanlagu takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Davis closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Tanlagu quickly recovers to half guard.

Tanlagu closes the distance and pushes Davis back into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tanlagu has had enough of the clinch but Davis keeps him there for the moment.

Tanlagu is fighting off a takedown attempt but Davis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Tanlagu to the mat. Tanlagu regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Tanlagu leaves Davis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Tanlagu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tanlagu wants it to stay on the feet.

Davis tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Davis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tanlagu avoids it really well and circles away.
Roderick Davis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
