PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jermaine Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Sarette (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cole comes to the cage accompanied by No Role Modelz. Sarette is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Crazy Train - Ozzy. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jermaine Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Sarette!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Reed Andrews and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sarette.
Sarette has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Sarette clinches with his opponent.

Cole breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cole misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sarette.
Cole misses with a takedown attempt - Sarette sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sarette clinches up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cole prevents a takedown attempt there.
Sarette is pressed up against the cage. Cole has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sarette down to the mat. Sarette avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Cole closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sarette to the mat! Sarette manages to get full guard.
Cole throws a strike but Sarette rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Sarette wants to control from the top but Cole keeps moving.

Cole is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sarette is aware though and is defending well.

Cole uses the cage to get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Sarette breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cole is trying to pull guard but Sarette turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Cole manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Cole is looking to stand up but Sarette isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cole looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Cole is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sarette is controlling him.
Sarette stands up over Cole, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cole is looking to stand up but Sarette isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cole keeping moving, preventing Sarette from controlling successfully.
Cole looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sarette is one step ahead there.

Sarette is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cole trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Cole takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Jermaine Cole has been cut.
Cole lands a head shot.

Cole moves into the clinch successfully.
Cole drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sarette gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Cole manages to break the clinch.
Sarette misses with a two punch combination.
Cole half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Cole will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sarette gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Cole goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sarette prevents it.
Cole has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sarette after a bit of a struggle.
Cole is breathing heavily.
Cole jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sarette walks away with a smile on his face. Cole gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A combination from Cole does no damage.

Sarette has taken the fight to the clinch.

Sarette gets control of Cole's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sarette will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sarette manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Sarette breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cole misses with a wild body shot.
Sarette shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Sarette dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jermaine Cole's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The fight stays on the outside here - Sarette looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cole displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sarette.

Cole went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Jermaine Cole seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sarette fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cole.

Sarette stalks Cole and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cole's face. Cole staggers backwards, shaken.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sarette scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Sarette is in close to Cole's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Sarette has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cole manages to escape and get back to his feet.
A head kick from Sarette lands but Cole takes it in his stride.
Cole is looking to wear down Sarette with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Cole throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sarette.
Cole swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sarette counters with a left and a right that stings Cole.

Cole tries to keep at a distance but Sarette has taken the fight into the clinch.

Sarette pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sarette throws a series of punches but Cole moves out of range.

Sarette tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cole swivels and escapes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cole fails with the takedown.
Despite the aggression on Sarette's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Sarette misses with the combination.
Sarette throws a right and a left that both miss.
An attempted straight right counter from Cole misses the target.
Cole uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sarette has time to react.
Sarette moves in looking to clinch but Cole pushes him off.
Cole looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
It seemed like Sarette was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Nick Sarette seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Sarette closes the distance and pushes Cole back into the cage.
Cole changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sarette fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Cole misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Nick Sarette will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Cole wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Sarette manages to pass to side control.

A nice side step and Sarette releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Sarette throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cole's waist but Cole gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sarette off to one side.
Cole throws a body punch but Sarette moves out of range.
Sarette has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cole tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sarette swivels and escapes.

Sarette turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sarette manages to end up in side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sarette wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cole keeps working.
Sarette lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Sarette decides to stand back up. Sarette steps back and let's Cole get back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sarette.

Sarette darts in and clinches Cole up against the cage.

Sarette breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Horrible takedown attempt by Sarette or perhaps it was just good defense by Cole, which made it look bad.

Sarette shoots in and gets a takedown into Cole's guard.

Sarette gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

and Sarette counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Nick Sarette is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Sarette rushes Cole and presses him up against the cage.
Cole goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sarette prevents it.

Sarette pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cole gets tackled into the cage by Sarette. Sarette maintains the clinch.
Cole is looking for a takedown.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nick Sarette comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sarette has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
