PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bread Panterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tobias Ziegler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Panterson's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, New Beginnings. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bread Panterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tobias Ziegler!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Panterson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Panterson tries to counter with a takedown but Ziegler is quick to defend against it.
Panterson finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Ziegler will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ziegler throws a head kick that misses.
Ziegler throws a leg kick but Panterson sees it coming and moves out of range.
Panterson tries to counter with a takedown but Ziegler is quick to defend against it.
Ziegler throws a left and a right that both miss

and Panterson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ziegler's guard.

Panterson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Panterson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Panterson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Panterson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ziegler looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Ziegler keeping moving, preventing Panterson from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ziegler can do anything to dispel that myth.

Panterson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ziegler is keeping the position for now.
Panterson forces his way into half guard.

Panterson is trying to work for a kimura but Ziegler is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Panterson is trying to control the action in half guard but Ziegler is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Panterson prevents Ziegler from standing back up.
Panterson passes to side control.

Panterson is trying to get an arm triangle but Ziegler is defending well.

Panterson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ziegler has escaped the position, nice work there.
Panterson wants to control but Ziegler is keeping him busy.
Ziegler felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Panterson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ziegler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ziegler tries to bench press Panterson off him but Panterson keeps the position.
You can see the frustration on Ziegler's face as Panterson controls the position.
Ziegler really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Panterson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Panterson tries for a kimura but Ziegler is defending well.
Ziegler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Panterson wants to control but Ziegler is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Panterson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Ziegler is avoiding damage well.

Panterson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Panterson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Panterson misses with the ground and pound.

Panterson swings around for an armbar but Ziegler sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Panterson's guard.

Panterson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Ziegler has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Panterson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Ziegler is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Panterson pulls down on the head and he's put Ziegler to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bread Panterson!
An out of breath Bread Panterson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
