PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Linwood Colon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josei Mulq (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Josei Mulq will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Linwood Colon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Josei Mulq!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mulq displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.


It looks like Linwood Colon has been cut.
Mulq tries to clinch but Colon moves away
and Colon counters with a nice uppercut.
Mulq wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Mulq wants to clinch
and Colon connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Mulq wants to clinch.
Colon attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Despite the aggression on Mulq's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mulq throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Mulq throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Colon was covering up waiting for the punch and Mulq finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Colon pulls Mulq in to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mulq postures up and lands a big shot to Colon's brow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mulq trying to control but Colon is working from the bottom.
Colon is controlling Mulq's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mulq throws a head kick but Colon moves out of range.
As Mulq tries to get set, Colon tries to push him back and clinch up but Mulq manages to avoid the attempt.

Mulq scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Colon works his way to full guard. Good work.
Colon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mulq passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Colon gets back to full guard.
Mulq looks winded!
Colon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mulq's guard.

Colon cracks Mulq with a solid left hand.
Mulq looking to control but Colon passes into half guard.
Mulq taking some punishment here, with Colon in his half guard.
Mulq really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Colon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Colon is looking for a kimura here.

Mulq on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Colon lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Mulq trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You get the feeling that Mulq really doesn't like being in this position too much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Josei Mulq will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Linwood Colon's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mulq tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Mulq is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Colon's half guard.
Mulq trying to control from Colon's half guard. Colon has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Colon is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mulq wriggles free and stands up.
Mulq is breathing heavily.

Mulq gets the takedown into side control.
Colon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Colon holding on.
Colon manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Colon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Colon.
Mulq looking to sit in guard and control but Colon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Colon with a nice head shot there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mulq wants to hit a switch here but Colon passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mulq there!
Colon breaks from Mulq's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Colon landing punches.
Colon with the ground and pound from mount.
Colon lands a heavy elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Colon looking for a guillotine from mount but Mulq is having none of it.
Colon has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mulq's face.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Colon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Colon stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Colon gets caught flat footed, as Mulq shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Linwood Colon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Colon pulls Mulq in close to his closed guard and prevents Mulq from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mulq is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Colon has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Mulq is looking to defend but Colon has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Mulq! Colon pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Mulq taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Linwood Colon!
