PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jewell Carrillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jewell Carrillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick Burns!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Burns uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Burns throws a right and a left that both miss.
Burns tries to land a leg kick but Carrillo saw it coming and moves away.

Burns drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Carrillo could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Carrillo is trying to get back to half guard.

Burns stands up and beckons Carrillo to his feet.
Carrillo takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Burns swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Burns scores with a jab to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burns clinches.

Burns is trying to trip Carrillo. He has hold of a leg but Carrillo is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Burns persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Carrillo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Burns can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Burns keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Carrillo's head.
Burns working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burns in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Burns lands a couple of digs.


Jewell Carrillo's cut is getting worse.
Burns is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Burns chips away with some ground and pound.


Jewell Carrillo's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Burns advances position into side control!
Carrillo is looking for a sweep.
Carrillo is not content to let Burns control the position.

Burns in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burns tries for a kimura but Carrillo is defending well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carrillo is working hard here to advance position.

Burns goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Carrillo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Burns's guard! Nice work there by Carrillo!

Carrillo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burns has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carrillo has managed to get both his arms back between Burns's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Burns wants to stand and escape but Carrillo is having none of it.
Burns keeping moving, preventing Carrillo from controlling successfully.

Burns has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carrillo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Jewell Carrillo's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Burns lands a nice hook to Carrillo's body. Carrillo takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Jewell Carrillo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Burns bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Carrillo's head backwards.
Burns scores with a jab. Carrillo acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Burns has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Burns leaves Carrillo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Burns throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A bone on bone clash there as Carrillo blocks the leg kick.

Burns fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Carrillo to the ground. Burns is now in Carrillo's guard.

Burns gets to his feet - Carrillo follows without any prompting.
Burns fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burns throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carrillo was covering up waiting for the punch and Burns finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Carrillo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Burns content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Carrillo looking for a guillotine here but Burns defends easily.
Burns sitting in guard here, content to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burns distracts Carrillo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jewell Carrillo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Patrick Burns!
