The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn swats away the attempt to clinch by Lei.
Penn is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Lei closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Penn's guard.
Penn is wriggling around but Lei manages to pass to half guard.

Lei decides to return to a standing position.
Lei ducks under a wild hook from Penn.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn's corner calls for a 1-2. Penn obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Penn slaps away a takedown attempt from Lei, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Lei shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Penn sprawls well. Penn wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lei gets slowly back to his feet.

Lei looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well.
Lei shoots in looking for a takedown. Penn tries to sprawl out of it but Lei keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Penn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lei walks into a left hand.
Penn scores with a nice right hand.
Lei is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

BJ Penn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Lei is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Penn.
Penn tries to bum rush Lei with a series of wild strikes but Lei uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Lei was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Lei is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Penn is keeping busy.

Lei wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Lei tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Penn just stands there and leans against the cage.

Penn connects with a right hand. Lei shakes it off.
Lei is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Penn moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.
