Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jared Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ranga Cat!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cat swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mathis counters by moving into the clinch.
Mathis jumps guard but Cat turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Mathis drags the fight down to the ground.
Cat throws an elbow that misses. Mathis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cat's guard. Nice move by Mathis!


Mathis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cat, up you get!
Cat swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mathis counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Mathis has Cat pressed against the cage, preventing Cat from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Mathis tries to work over Cat's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mathis displaying some good clinch control by pressing Cat up against the cage.
Mathis crunches a lovely knee into Cat's ribcage.

Mathis fails to pull guard.
Cat is trying to break the clinch but Mathis has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Cat's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mathis tries to land knees in the clinch but Cat avoids the damage to the body.
Mathis tries to pull guard but Cat won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jared Mathis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mathis throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Mathis tries to pull guard but Cat won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mathis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cat is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Mathis lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Cat.
Mathis misses with a body punch.
Mathis is trying to pull guard but Cat turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Mathis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cat walks away with a smile on his face. Mathis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Cat misses with a double jab

and Mathis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cat won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mathis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mathis cracks Cat with a big elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cat is looking to regain half guard here but Mathis keeps moving and retains side control.
Check out the look on Mathis's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Mathis goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cat rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Mathis's guard! Nice work there by Cat!
Cat landing some decent shots from guard.
Mathis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mathis is nestled in close to Cat, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mathis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cat taking some punishment here, with Mathis in his half guard.

Mathis stands up from half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cat drops Mathis with a beautiful combination! Mathis stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Cat is looking for the KO!


Mathis is rocked!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cat feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Mathis crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ranga Cat!
