PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eliseo Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunnar Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen mama said knock you out as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eliseo Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Gunnar Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Duncan appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Duncan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nelson connects with a high kick.

Duncan darts in and clinches Nelson up against the cage.

Nelson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Duncan blocks a head kick by Nelson.

Nelson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Duncan was covering up waiting for the punch and Nelson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Nelson told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Duncan wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duncan tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Nelson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Duncan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Nelson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Nelson tries to stand but Duncan is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nelson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nelson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Nelson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Duncan quickly recovers to half guard.
Nelson tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Duncan is trying to control but can't.
Duncan pushes Nelson off looking to stand but Nelson dives back in and keeps control.

Nelson is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Duncan blocks a head kick by Nelson.
Duncan is looking to counter punch.
Nelson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nelson throws a combination. Duncan tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Nelson works over Duncan's head and body with a nice combination.
Nelson tries a head kick but it misses.
Duncan tries to clinch but Nelson is having none of it.
Nelson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Nelson throws a sloppy head kick
and Duncan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nelson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nelson looks winded!
Duncan dodges the punch combination from Nelson.
Nelson throws a series of punches but Duncan avoids them all with ease.
Nelson swats away the attempt to clinch by Duncan.
Gunnar Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nelson looking to score a takedown here. Duncan is defending well but Nelson drives through and ends up in Duncan's guard.
Duncan is looking to stand up but Nelson isn't so interested in that idea.
Duncan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nelson wants to stand and escape but instead Duncan has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Duncan tries to pull guard but Nelson holds him up against the cage and eventually Duncan drops back down to his feet.

Nelson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nelson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Nelson wants to stand but Duncan is controlling his arm.
The referee asks Nelson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nelson prefers to stall for the moment though.

Nelson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nelson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

The fight stays on the outside here - Duncan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nelson tries to counter with a clinch but Duncan shakes him off and moves away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Duncan misses with a wild combination.
Nelson throws a head kick that misses.
Nelson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nelson stalks Duncan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Duncan's face. Duncan staggers backwards, shaken.

Nelson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Nelson is continuing to stall.
Duncan is looking to escape.
Nelson is controlling the pace.
Duncan looks like he's trying to stand up.
Well, if Nelson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Nelson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Duncan, pushing him back against the cage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Duncan lands a right hand that snaps the head of Nelson backwards.
Nelson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Nelson lands a right hand.

Nelson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nelson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Duncan counters with a stiff right hand.

Nelson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Duncan wants to improve his position but Nelson is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunnar Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Nelson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nelson throws a nice looking combination but Duncan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nelson swats away the attempt to clinch by Duncan.

Eliseo Duncan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nelson drives through and clinches with Duncan against the cage.
Nelson is pressed up against the cage. Duncan has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nelson down to the mat. Nelson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Nelson stands and steps away. Duncan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nelson moves into range and clinches up with Duncan.

Nelson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Duncan regains guard immediately.

Let's hope that Nelson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Nelson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Duncan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nelson has managed to get both his arms back between Duncan's legs - danger averted.

Gunnar Nelson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Duncan wants to clinch.

Nelson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Duncan tries to bench press Nelson off him but Nelson keeps the position.
Gunnar Nelson has got the better of the ground game so far.
A lull in the action here as Nelson stalls from top position.
Duncan is looking to regain half guard here but Nelson keeps moving and retains side control.
The referee asks Nelson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nelson prefers to stall for the moment though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nelson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gunnar Nelson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nelson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
