The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason lands with a shot to the body.
Bates could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bates takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Jack Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bates rushes Mason and presses him up against the cage.
Mason wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Bates fails to pull guard.

Mason manages to break the clinch.
Mason scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Mason gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bates takes a shot to the head.
Bates is trying to break the clinch but Mason is controlling him.
Bates has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mason after a bit of a struggle.
Mason is looking to break free of the clinch but Bates has double underhooks.

Mason escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mason scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

It looks like Clyde Bates has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mason scores with a crisp jab that stopped Bates in his tracks.
Mason connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Bates covering up! Mason comes in with a big uppercut and Bates goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
