PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ernie Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abe Eaton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ernie Suarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Abe Eaton!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Eaton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Suarez sprawls well initially but Eaton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Eaton scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Eaton is thwarting Suarez's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Suarez wants to get back to full guard.
Eaton prevents Suarez from standing back up.

Eaton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Suarez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Eaton.
Suarez tries to roll over but Eaton keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Suarez is refusing to be controlled, as Eaton sits in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Suarez tries to kick Eaton off but Eaton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Eaton closes the distance and clinches.
A shot in the inside from Suarez.

Eaton jumps guard.

Eaton looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Eaton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Suarez's guard.

Eaton looking to sit in guard and control but Suarez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Eaton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Suarez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Eaton manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Eaton is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Suarez is defending well for now.

Suarez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Suarez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Suarez throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Suarez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Eaton's guard.
Eaton is looking to stand back up but Suarez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Eaton.

Eaton has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Suarez tries to stand but can't do so whilst Eaton controls his leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Eaton is looking for a sweep. Suarez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Suarez winds up and cracks Eaton with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Suarez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Eaton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Suarez is trying to control the action in half guard but Eaton is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Eaton wants to improve his position but Suarez is controlling well.
Eaton is breathing heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Suarez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Suarez throws a leg kick but Eaton checks it.

Suarez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Eaton slips a jab and a cross from Suarez.
Suarez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Suarez slaps away a takedown attempt from Eaton, before circling back to the center of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Suarez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Eaton enables Suarez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Eaton manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Suarez is in close to Eaton's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Eaton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Suarez is one step ahead there.
Suarez wants to control from the top but Eaton keeps moving.

Suarez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Eaton throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Eaton manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Suarez manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Eaton makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Suarez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Eaton manages to pass to side control.
Eaton is just content to waste time from the top position. Suarez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Suarez manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Suarez drags the fight down to the ground.

Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back.

Eaton drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Eaton jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Eaton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Suarez throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Suarez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Eaton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Suarez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Suarez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Eaton manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Eaton wants a takedown.

Suarez pulls Eaton into guard.

Suarez is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Eaton presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Suarez lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Eaton backwards.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Eaton wants a takedown but no success here.
Suarez lands with a left to the head.

Suarez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Suarez shoots in and gets a takedown into Eaton's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ernie Suarez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Suarez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
