PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hushing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uncle Sam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hushing comes to the cage accompanied by PAUL VAN DYK "For An Angel" . Uncle Sam told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Hushing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Uncle Sam!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sam looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Sam ducks under a wild hook from Hushing.
Sam avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
No luck for Sam with that takedown attempt.
Sam takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hushing.
Hushing is staying tight to Sam's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Hushing trying to control the action but Sam is working from the bottom.
Sam is being controlled here.

Hushing looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Hushing trying to control the position but Sam is working away.
Sam is pushing Hushing's head away, looking to escape. Hushing manages to hold on to the position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

It looks like Uncle Sam has been cut.

Sam bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

The fighters circling - Hushing throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Hushing is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Hushing's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Hushing drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hushing sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sam's guard.

Sam pushes Hushing off looking to stand but Hushing dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sam is looking to land body kicks.
Hushing darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Hushing tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hushing has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sam slips a jab and a cross from Hushing.
Sam looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Sam moves out of range of the strikes.
Hushing throws the left hand but Sam avoids the punch easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hushing working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sam pushes Hushing away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hushing gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Sam is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hushing asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hushing is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sam has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hushing throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Sam works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hushing misses with a hook. Sam ducked under it nicely.
Matt Hushing seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sam keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Hushing.

Hushing is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Hushing feints and as Sam raises his hands in defense, Hushing changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Sam has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hushing is proving hard to escape from.

Hushing darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sam is trying to stand.
Sam is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Hushing thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hushing looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hushing thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sam's head.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Well, if Hushing is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hushing is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Sam!
Hushing wants to take Sam's back but he can't do it this time.

Hushing jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sam manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Sam wants to get back to his feet but Hushing drags him back down.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hushing tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sam's legs.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hushing shoots in but no luck this time.
Sam lands a nice shot that snaps Hushing's head back.
Hushing throws a big shot that misses.
Hushing looks for a takedown but Sam sprawls well.
Hushing avoids the head kick by Sam.
Hushing shoots in looking for a takedown. Sam tries to sprawl out of it but Hushing keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sam manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Hushing. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hushing postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sam is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hushing, into his guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hushing, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
