Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Giovanni Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hans Grietje (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Giovanni Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hans Grietje!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles avoids a kick to the body.
As Grietje tries to get set, Charles tries to push him back and clinch up but Grietje manages to avoid the attempt.
Grietje misses with a head kick.

Charles has Grietje up against the cage in a clinch.

Charles pulls Grietje into guard.
Charles bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Grietje's guard.

Charles chips away with some ground and pound.
Charles is in close to Grietje's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Charles stays in close to Grietje's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Charles accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Charles sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Charles has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Charles has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Charles decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Charles closes the distance and pushes Grietje back into the cage.
Grietje wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Charles has him pressed against the cage.
Grietje is trying to force a seperation but Charles has the dominant position.

Charles jumps guard.
Grietje tries to stand but Charles is controlling from the bottom.
Charles is pulling down on Grietje's head. It's preventing any offense from Grietje, at least for the moment.
Grietje must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Charles not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Charles manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Grietje manages to get himself to full guard.

Charles landing with the ground and pound.
Charles distracts Grietje with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Charles content to stall in guard here.
Grietje trying to keep a closed guard but Charles is proving a slippery customer.

Charles with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Charles slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Grietje looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Charles throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Grietje tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Charles is in Grietje's guard.

Charles stands up and waves to Grietje to follow him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Giovanni Charles dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Grietje thuds his shin into the meat of Charles's side.
Hans Grietje seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Charles rushes Grietje and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Grietje manages to pull guard.

Charles drops back looking for a leg! Grietje is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Grietje manages to kick Charles off! Charles jumps back into Grietje's guard.
Charles controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Charles is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Grietje can do to turn this around?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charles's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Charles.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Charles stands up from Grietje's guard - Charles perhaps looking for a knockout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A combination from Grietje does no damage.

Charles closes the distance and clinches.

Charles has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Grietje is trying to keep an underhook but Charles manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Charles takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Grietje missing with punches from the bottom.

Giovanni Charles overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Charles is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Charles lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Charles looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Grietje with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Well, if Charles is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Grietje is trying to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Grietje has hold of Charles's hands but Charles slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Charles not doing much here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A left and a right from Charles both land. Nice combination.
Charles tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Grietje swivels and escapes.
Charles sets himself, and Grietje steps forward looking for the clinch! Charles avoids it this time.
Charles takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Charles avoids the head kick by Grietje.
Charles ducks right into an uppercut from Grietje.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Charles's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Grietje tries to close the distance and clinch up but Charles swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Charles takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Grietje is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Grietje gets tackled into the cage by Charles. Charles maintains the clinch.

Charles has clasped his hands together around Grietje's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Grietje is looking to get back to his feet here but Charles is keeping cool and he's managed to take Grietje's back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Charles is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Charles is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Charles gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Charles gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Charles apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Charles moves into the clinch.
Grietje tries to circle away but Charles has him pinned against the cage.

Grietje ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Grietje no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Charles postures up and lands a big shot to Grietje's brow.

Charles gets to his feet - Grietje follows without any prompting.
Charles finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Grietje tries to clinch up but Charles circles away and keeps his distance.

Charles scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Grietje takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Charles stalling.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Charles looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Charles in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hans Grietje has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Giovanni Charles is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Charles continues to hold on tight.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Charles, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
