PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Phallos Eugene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Tanaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phallos Eugene!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sergio Tanaka!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Eugene with that takedown attempt.
Eugene will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Tanaka raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Eugene tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tanaka sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Eugene somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phallos Eugene. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Eugene shoots for a takedown but Tanaka saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Eugene closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Eugene lands in his opponent's guard.
Tanaka wants to hit a switch here but Eugene passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Tanaka there!
Tanaka can't escape the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Eugene stuffs the takedown.

Tanaka jabbing away but nothing is landing.
As Tanaka tries to get set, Eugene tries to push him back and clinch up but Tanaka manages to avoid the attempt.

Eugene shoots in and bounces Tanaka off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Eugene stays in close to Tanaka's body and controls the position.
Eugene passes Tanaka's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Eugene looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Eugene seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tanaka for as long as he can get away with.
Eugene continues to stall.
Tanaka wants to get back to his feet.

Tanaka is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Eugene's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Eugene's back!

Tanaka tries to get the hooks in deep but Eugene pushed the leg off.

Tanaka is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Eugene knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Eugene for a finish.

Tanaka has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Eugene has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Tanaka is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Eugene defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Eugene is really stuck here.
Eugene knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tanaka on the ground.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tanaka looking to break Eugene's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Eugene remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Tanaka will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Eugene not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A close round but Sergio Tanaka will probably get the nod.
That's time! Eugene's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Eugene manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Tanaka on his heels. He'll look to pass Tanaka's guard now, I'm sure.
Tanaka is looking to stand back up but Eugene counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Tanaka.

Eugene has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Eugene lands a nice short elbow.

Eugene is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Eugene is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Phallos Eugene is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Eugene feints a jab promting Tanaka to slip. Eugene then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Tanaka slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Eugene closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Eugene in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eugene prevents Tanaka from standing back up.
Eugene seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Eugene shoots in looking for a takedown but Tanaka manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Eugene's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Eugene changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tanaka tries to avoid it but Eugene manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tanaka to the ground. Tanaka escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phallos Eugene. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tanaka throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Eugene's waist but Eugene gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tanaka off to one side.
A quick step to the side and Eugene tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Eugene looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Tanaka dives in and grabs Eugene's left leg, looking for a takedown. Eugene pushes down on Tanaka's head and hops out.

Eugene shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Eugene was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Eugene remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Eugene.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Tanaka is not content to let Eugene control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Eugene dives in and grabs Tanaka's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tanaka pushes down on Eugene's head and hops out.
Eugene shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tanaka sprawls well. Tanaka wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Eugene gets slowly back to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Eugene or perhaps it was just good defense by Tanaka, which made it look bad.
Eugene wants to clinch.
Eugene closes the distance and clinches up with Tanaka, looking for a takedown. Eugene pushes Tanaka against the cage but Tanaka circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Eugene tries to land a knee to the head but Tanaka blocks with his arms.
Tanaka is trying to pull guard but Eugene turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Tanaka jumps into guard, dragging Eugene to the mat.
Tanaka tries to strike from the bottom.

Tanaka is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Eugene is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Phallos Eugene.
I think Eugene has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
