PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Barath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Pete!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Barath!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pete gets a double leg takedown into Barath's guard.

Pete decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Barath lands with a shot to the body.
Pete looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Pete instigates a clinch.
Pete tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Barath just stands there and leans against the cage.
Barath prevents Pete from breaking the clinch.

Pete manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pete avoids the head kick by Barath.
Pete tries to clinch up.
Barath tries to clinch but Pete moves out of range.
Pete seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Pete fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Barath throws out a counter right but Pete avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Pete. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barath throws a head kick but Pete moves out of range.
A solid body kick from Pete.
Barath shoots in for a takedown but Pete shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Pete gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pete really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pete is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Barath manages to break the clinch.
Barath scores with a kick to the body.

Barath clinches up with Pete and pushes him back against the cage.

Pete breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pete fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pete is breathing heavily.

Barath gets a takedown into half guard.
Pete tries to kick Barath off in order to stand up. Barath Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Barath decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Barath fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pete to the ground. Barath is now in Pete's guard.
Barath looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Pete working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barath controls from within his opponent's guard.
Barath slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pete is trying to escape the position but Barath is controlling the position.
Barath lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Barath working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Pete is looking to regain half guard here but Barath keeps moving and retains side control.

Barath is working to tighten his grip on Pete's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Pete has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Barath is really squeezing tight and eventually Pete passes out! Barath breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Chris Barath!
