Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Meguru Takayanagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Callum Welsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Meguru Takayanagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Callum Welsh!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Welsh scores with a spinning back kick!
Welsh uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Takayanagi.
Welsh lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Takayanagi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Welsh.
Welsh lands a leg kick that knocks Takayanagi off balance momentarily.
Welsh lands with a nice body punch.
Takayanagi has a takedown stuffed.
Welsh tries a quick counter leg kick but Takayanagi is wise to it.

Takayanagi misses with a wild body shot.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Takayanagi.

Takayanagi throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Crunch! Takayanagi slams his shin into Welsh's torso.
Welsh takes a swing at Takayanagi's ribcage but misses.

Takayanagi feinted with a counter takedown.

Takayanagi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Welsh's guard.
Welsh tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takayanagi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Takayanagi won't allow Welsh to sweep him here.

Welsh is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Welsh chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Takayanagi can pounce on him.
Takayanagi throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Takayanagi throws a right and a left that Welsh avoids nicely.
Takayanagi swings away with a body shot that misses
and Welsh counters with a good low kick that Takayanagi was not able to check.
Takayanagi motions for Welsh to come forward. Takayanagi throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Takayanagi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Welsh looks to land a body kick but Takayanagi moved away.

Welsh wants to clinch up but Takayanagi keeps it at a distance.

Welsh is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Takayanagi throws out a leg kick but Welsh moves out of range and Takayanagi only half commits.
Takayanagi tries to bum rush Welsh with a series of wild strikes but Welsh uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Takayanagi throws a looping overhand right but Welsh ducks down to avoid it.
Takayanagi swats away the attempt to clinch by Welsh.

Takayanagi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Takayanagi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Welsh is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Meguru Takayanagi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Takayanagi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Welsh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Meguru Takayanagi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Welsh tries to close the distance and clinch but Takayanagi swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Takayanagi throws a hook to the side of Welsh's head but Welsh sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Welsh explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Welsh fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Takayanagi.

Welsh gets caught napping as Takayanagi dives in and scores a takedown. Welsh manages to retain guard.
Takayanagi pushes down on Welsh's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Welsh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Welsh moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Meguru Takayanagi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Takayanagi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Takayanagi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Takayanagi is looking to advance position but Welsh has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Welsh looking to control but Takayanagi is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Welsh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Takayanagi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Takayanagi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Meguru Takayanagi tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
