PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Darrick Abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marlon Jogos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jogos has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Marlon Jogos will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Darrick Abbott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marlon Jogos!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jogos clobbers Abbott with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Jogos fails with the takedown.
Marlon Jogos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jogos tries to close the distance and clinch but Abbott swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Abbott drops down looking for a counter takedown but Jogos sprawls and moves away.
Jogos throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Abbott's waist but Abbott gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jogos off to one side.
Jogos tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A combination from Abbott does no damage.
Jogos tries to close the distance and clinch up but Abbott swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Abbott ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jogos moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jogos fails in his attempt to clinch.
Abbott throws a big counter combination but Jogos scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Jogos tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Abbott decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jogos's guard.

Jogos had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Abbott defends it easily.
Abbott engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Abbott wants to stand but Jogos has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Abbott knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jogos on the ground.
Jogos not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jogos has his foot on Abbott's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abbott works his way back into a safe position though.
Abbott would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Abbott is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Jogos with a poor takedown

and Abbott moves into the clinch.
Darrick Abbott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlon Jogos.
Abbott tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jogos smiles and moves away.
Jogos shoots in for a double leg but Abbott sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Abbott goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Abbott slips a jab and a cross from Jogos.

Abbott gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Abbott fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Abbott gets control of Jogos's arms and successfully pulls guard. Abbott will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Abbott utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jogos trying to control but Abbott is working from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abbott is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jogos pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Abbott is keeping the position for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Abbott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jogos is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Abbott is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Abbott has escaped and now he's on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jogos keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Abbott falls off balance throwing a combination
and Jogos counters with a lovely shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Abbott gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Abbott fails to pull guard.
Abbott keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Jogos's efforts to push away.

Abbott is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jogos can do to turn this around?

Abbott looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jogos is one step ahead there.
Jogos trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Abbott is looking for a triangle but Jogos pushes his legs off easily.

Jogos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jogos is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Jogos postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Jogos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Abbott controls Jogos momentarily but Jogos frees himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jogos has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Abbott is proving hard to escape from.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Abbott wants to get up but he can't break Jogos's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jogos working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abbott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abbott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Abbott is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Abbott has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Abbott is in close to Jogos's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Abbott wanted to stand there but Jogos had control of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jogos avoids a punch combination nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Darrick Abbott will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Abbott throws a head kick that misses.
Jogos goes for a double leg but Abbott avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Abbott continues to drive forward.
Jogos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Abbott counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Abbott misses with a low kick.
Abbott tries to bum rush Jogos with a series of wild strikes but Jogos uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Some bone on bone action there as Jogos checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Abbott misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jogos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Abbott sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jogos somewhat.
Darrick Abbott has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlon Jogos.
Jogos takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jogos closes the distance and clinches up with Abbott, looking for a takedown. Jogos pushes Abbott against the cage but Abbott circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jogos avoids the head kick by Abbott.
Abbott pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jogos is looking to clinch but Abbott is avoiding it.

Jogos throws a series of strikes that have Abbott backpedaling.
Jogos tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Abbott swivels and escapes.
Jogos dives in and grabs Abbott's left leg, looking for a takedown. Abbott pushes down on Jogos's head and hops out.
Abbott throws a head kick but Jogos moves out of range.
Jogos is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Some bone on bone action there as Jogos checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Abbott fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jogos changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Abbott blocks a head kick by Jogos.
Abbott keeps the fight on the outside.
Jogos tries to clinch but Abbott is having none of it.
Jogos throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Abbott counters by moving into the clinch.

Abbott has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Jogos regains guard immediately.
Darrick Abbott overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jogos tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Jogos looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Abbott passes into half guard.

Still in half guard, Abbott seems content to control.
Abbott has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Marlon Jogos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Abbott tries to stand and escape but Jogos is controlling the position.

Abbott decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Abbott throws a lazy head kick
and Jogos counters with a stiff right hand.
Jogos pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Abbott is looking for a counter combo.

And that's the end of the fight!
Darrick Abbott showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Abbott has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
