Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Graham Van Leakenstien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maximus Meridius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Graham Van Leakenstien!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Leakenstien leaves Meridius with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Meridius throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Van Leakenstien's waist but Van Leakenstien gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Meridius off to one side.
Van Leakenstien looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Van Leakenstien darts in looking for a takedown but Meridius gets double underhooks and turns Van Leakenstien into the ropes.
Meridius fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maximus Meridius. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Meridius makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meridius shoots in for a takedown but Van Leakenstien shows good takedown defense.
Van Leakenstien is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Graham Van Leakenstien seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

so Meridius counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Meridius prevents Van Leakenstien from getting back to his feet.
Meridius with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Meridius takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Meridius is working for a kimura but Van Leakenstien is defending it quite comfortably.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Meridius winds up and cracks Van Leakenstien with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Meridius working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Van Leakenstien has hold of Meridius's hands but Meridius slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.


It looks like Graham Van Leakenstien has been cut.

That has opened up Graham Van Leakenstien's cut even more.
Meridius takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Meridius is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Van Leakenstien is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Maximus Meridius!
Post fight, an emotional Maximus Meridius said 'Are you entertained? Are you not entertained?!?!?'.
