PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Turtle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Copper Light (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frankie Turtle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Copper Light!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Roberts and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Light throws a series of punches but Turtle avoids them all with ease.
Turtle shoots and misses

and Light counters by moving into the clinch.

Light decides to pull guard.

Light looking for a guillotine here but Turtle defends easily.
Light is pulling down on Turtle's head. It's preventing any offense from Turtle, at least for the moment.
Light lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Turtle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Light is aware though and is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Turtle working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Light.
Light throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Turtle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Light with a flurry of punches that miss.
Light controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Turtle knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Light on the ground.
Light passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Light decides to stand back up.
Light shoots in for a takedown but Turtle shows good takedown defense.
Turtle lands a head kick. Light smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Light looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Light passes Turtle's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Light is taking a breather. Turtle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Light passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Turtle!
Light looking to control and managing it successfully.
Turtle tries to lock up and control but Light gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Turtle is breathing heavily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Light stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Light looks for a takedown but Turtle sprawls well.
Turtle throws a sloppy head kick and Light moves out of range easily.
A big right from Turtle misses.
Turtle fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Light has a takedown stuffed.
Frankie Turtle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Copper Light.

Light shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Light was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Turtle tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Light scores with punches from the back.
Light keeps control of the position easily here as Turtle tries to buck him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Copper Light dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Light shoots in looking for a takedown but Turtle manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Light's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Light counters with a crisp one two that drops Turtle! Light thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Turtle to his feet! Turtle is in big trouble!


Turtle is rocked!
Turtle throws a sloppy head kick and Light moves out of range easily.
Oh Turtle is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Light drives through with a takedown into guard.
Turtle wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Light manages to pass to side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Light lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Light working Turtle over with strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Light gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Light drives through with a takedown into guard.
Turtle is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Light dives into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.


Light decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Turtle seems to have got his legs back now.

Light bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Light working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Light stands up.

Light fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Turtle, pushing him back against the cage.
Light working Turtle over with knees to the body.

Light manages to break the clinch.

Light darts in and clinches Turtle up against the cage.
Light has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Light jumps guard and drags Turtle to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Light lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Light seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Light slips nicely into half guard.
Turtle has hold of Light's hands but Light slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Light seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Nice strikes from Light there.
Light takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Light is working for a submission of some sort.
Light has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Light performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Light is working for a kimura but Turtle is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turtle is in trouble now - Light has advanced to mount!
Light controlling the pace for now.
Light with the ground and pound from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Copper Light showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Light shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Turtle but Turtle pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Turtle counters with a series of strikes. Light will be more careful next time no doubt.
Turtle throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Light clinches with his opponent.
Turtle goes for a takedown in the clinch but Light prevents it.

Light breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Light counters by moving into the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Turtle has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Light after a bit of a struggle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Light using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Turtle has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Light gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Turtle regains guard.
Turtle is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Light dives into side control.

Light remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Light works to advance to full mount. Turtle defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Light sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Light is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Light!
