PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between German Giles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wizard Kelley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wizard Kelley will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, German Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wizard Kelley!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giles shoots in for a takedown but Kelley shows good takedown defense.
Kelley tries a head kick but it misses.

Kelley closes the distance and pushes Giles back into the cage.

Kelley has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Giles regains guard immediately.
Kelley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Giles wants to get back to his feet but Kelley is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kelley trying to control the position from guard on top but Giles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Giles pulls Kelley in close to prevent any damage.

Kelley controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Let's hope that Kelley has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Giles closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kelley's guard.
Kelley is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Giles's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kelley wants to stand up but Giles is controlling him.
Kelley trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Giles is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kelley doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Giles.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Giles postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Giles gets to his feet - Kelley follows without any prompting.
Giles shoots in looking for a takedown but Kelley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Giles's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kelley pushes Giles up against the cage in a clinch.
Giles is trying to pull guard but Kelley turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for German Giles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Giles fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kelley lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Kelley is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Giles is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wizard Kelley dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Giles counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Kelley has Giles pulled in close to control his posture.

Giles drops back looking for a leg! Kelley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kelley manages to kick Giles off! Giles jumps back into Kelley's guard.

Giles controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Giles prevents Kelley from getting back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kelley throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Kelley has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Giles shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Giles thumps Kelley with a low kick.
Giles throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kelley feints the counter takedown.

Kelley bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Giles manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kelley's best efforts.

Kelley content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kelley postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Giles to stand up.

Kelley gets a double leg takedown into Giles's guard.
Kelley is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Giles is on top in guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kelley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Giles sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kelley's guard.
Kelley wants to get back to full guard but Giles has mounted him!
Kelley throwing hammer fists to the chest of Giles. What's that going to do exactly?
Kelley throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Kelley wants to control but Giles is having none of it.
Giles tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Giles cracks Kelley with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Kelley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Giles get's back to his feet.
Kelley scores with a head kick. Giles tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Giles gets caught flat footed, as Kelley shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Giles uses the cage to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kelley stuffs the takedown attempt from Giles. Giles gets slowly back to his feet.
Giles shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kelley pinned against the cage. Kelley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

German Giles dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Kelley closes the distance and pushes Giles back into the cage.

Kelley decides to pull guard.
Kelley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Giles cracks Kelley with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kelley keeping moving, preventing Giles from controlling successfully.
Kelley controls Giles momentarily but Giles frees himself.
Giles not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kelley is trying to keep Giles in close.
Kelley might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Giles haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Giles wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kelley has him pressed against the cage.

Kelley jumps into guard, dragging Giles to the mat.

Giles wants to pass the guard but Kelley is keeping the position.

Giles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kelley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Giles gets to his feet - Kelley follows without any prompting.

Kelley rushes Giles and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kelley manages to break the clinch.

Giles is concentrating on defense, preventing Kelley from advancing position.

Giles has control of Kelley's left arm, preventing Kelley from doing any damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wizard Kelley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kelley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
