PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Weston Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kamerom Boss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Weston Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kamerom Boss!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boss throws a wild body kick that Perez sees coming a mile off.
Boss fails with the takedown.

Boss fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Perez, pushing him back against the cage.
Perez misses with a short punch on the inside.
Perez leaning his opponent against the cage.
Boss is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Perez to keep the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boss breaks the clinch.
Perez avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez looks to score with a jab to the body but Boss is just out of range.

Boss shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Perez tries to kick Boss off but Boss keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Perez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Boss wants to advance to full mount but Perez doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Boss controlling from the top position.

Boss gets to his feet. Perez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Perez enables Boss to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Perez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Boss wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving.
Perez wants to stand but Boss is controlling the position.
Boss pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Perez is keeping the position for now.
Boss prevents Perez from getting back to his feet.
Boss is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Perez really is a fat lump.
Perez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Boss somewhat.
Perez is looking to counter punch.
Weston Perez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kamerom Boss.

Boss is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Perez is defending well.
Boss prevents Perez from breaking the clinch.
Boss blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Perez swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Perez stalling in the clinch but Boss improves position.
Boss tries to land knees in the clinch but Perez avoids the damage to the body.
Boss fails to pull guard.

Boss pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boss looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Perez is fending him off so far but Boss persists. Nope, Perez circles away and we're back to standing.
Perez was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Boss changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Perez tries to avoid it but Boss manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Perez to the ground. Perez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Boss looks winded!
Boss tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Perez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kamerom Boss will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Perez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Boss paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Boss is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Perez is looking for a counter combo.
Boss darts in trying to clinch

and Perez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Boss won't be happy with that.

Boss sneaks out the side door and pushes Perez away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Boss fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Perez avoids it really well and circles away.

Boss will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Boss throws a head kick that misses.
Boss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Boss somewhat.

Boss misses with a takedown attempt - Perez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It looked like Perez was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Boss.

Perez manages to get back to half guard.
Perez wants to control but Boss is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Perez preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Boss escapes and gets back to his feet.

Perez keeps the fight on the outside.
Perez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Boss sprawls and moves away.
Boss wants to land a leg kick but Perez is out of range.

and Perez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Perez.
Boss wants to stand up but Perez is controlling him.

Perez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Boss, up you get!
Kamerom Boss seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Perez ducks right into an uppercut from Boss.
Boss shoots and misses
and Perez counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Boss shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Perez as he avoids it easily.
Perez swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Perez stuffs the takedown.
Perez throws a body punch but Boss moves out of range.
Boss is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Perez dodges the punch combination from Boss.
Perez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Boss but Boss pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Perez slips a jab and a cross from Boss.
Perez feinted with a counter takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Kamerom Boss will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Perez wanted to stand there but Boss had control of the position.
Boss wants to control but Perez passes easily into half guard.
Kamerom Boss has got the better of the ground game so far.
Perez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Boss does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Perez is controlling the pace.

Boss is defending against the submission attempts here by Perez.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Boss avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Perez.
Perez working over Boss with some ground and pound. Boss looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Boss looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Boss gets full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Perez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Perez preventing the sweep.
Perez wants to stand and escape but instead Boss has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Perez wants to improve his position but instead Boss has moved into half guard.
Perez wants to control but Boss is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Boss decides to stand and escape the position.
Boss shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Perez as he jumps to the side.
Boss takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Boss closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Perez throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boss moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Perez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Boss moves away.
Boss shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Perez sprawls well. Perez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Boss gets slowly back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Weston Perez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Boss has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
